“Boy, have we got a vacation for you…Westworld…Where nothing can possibly go wrong !”

Acclaimed comic book and fantasy artist Neal Adams produced a superb ‘Terminator’ image of Yul Brynner (a good 10 years before James Cameron’s cult classic movie would be released) for this original 1973 original UK quad movie poster for “Westworld”. Known as the ‘Monitors’ style it is extremely coveted by collectors of the genre and fans of the artist. Written & Directed by Michael Crichton this “robots gone mad” science fiction horror film was one of the most memorable key titles of the 70’s retaining a huge fanbase to this day. Totally original & unrestored this originally folded (as issued) UK quad film poster is from first year of release, 1973. It displays & presents to excellent effect with beautiful bright white background and vibrant unfaded colours, with the orange of the title particularly vivid. Scarce and very very collectable, this original UK quad film poster would make a fine addition to any movie memorabilia collection or a great starting point for someone new to the market.

Trivia: Director John Carpenter based the “indestructable” nature of his killer Michael Myers in Halloween (1978) on Yul Brynner‘s character in this film. Similarly, Arnold Schwarzenegger used Brynner’s performance as the basis of his performance in The Terminator (1984).

Film Description

Westworld Movie Poster

“Westworld …where robot men and women are programmed to serve you for …Romance …Violence …Anything !”

Writer/Director Michael Crichton clearly has an interest in amusement theme parks where things go horribly wrong! His most successful achievement Jurassic Park revolves on this ingenious premise, but so does this Westworld which predates Steven Spielberg‘s box-office hit by 20 years! And maybe I don’t know anything about cinema, but I sure think this film is at least ten times better and more unsettling than “Jurassic Park”. Despite some flaws and script-errors, Crichton’s science fiction masterpiece is a tense milestone that is ultimately compelling and far ahead of its time. In a near future, a couple of slick marketeers have developed a holiday resort where rich tourists are offered imaginative vacations in perfect copies of the ancient Rome, a medieval countryside or the Wild West. The story mainly focuses on Westworld, where robot gunslingers like Yul Brynner (even more brilliant than usual) are programmed to die bloodily whenever a jolly tourist challenges them to a duel. That is, until suddenly the central computer begins the malfunction and the robots stand up for themselves. The last half hour is amazingly suspenseful and contains some gruesome images that’ll definitely excite horror fans. The set pieces and costumes are excellent and with a great eye for detail. For the legendary actor Yul Brunner, this was an ideal movie to conclude his brilliant career and simultaneously a great opportunity to bring homage his entire repertoire.

41 x 81″ printed on paper. These were printed on two or three separate sheets designed to overlap, few survive. Used for larger advertising spaces, normally posted on walls, perfect for huge movie theatres the drive-in, where people could see them from a distance. From the 1970’s on, three-sheets were sometimes printed in one piece and issued as “international” versions to be used abroad.
