“Fear can hold you prisoner…Hope can set you free”
“The Shawshank Redemption” has achieved (rightly so) legendary status since its first release in 1994 seemingly appearing in every Top Ten Favourite film poll ever published. So it came as no surprise that in 2004 it was re-released in cinemas with special 10th Anniversary screenings. To accompany these anniversary showings a unique film poster was created and movie poster maestro Drew Struzan was commissioned by Director Frank Darabont to create something special. The finished poster is one of the best posters he has created (in my opinion) and a true personal favourite. Centering his design around the original 1994 imagery of a rainswept cruciform man, Struzan has expanded on that to include remarkable characterisations of the leading actors (Tim Robbins & Morgan Freeman) set against a dark background. Their images are bathed in the light of hope to emphasise their journey from the dark of the prison to their eventual redemption. This stunning original 2004 Anniversary British UK quad film poster is rolled (as issued) and in presented in near perfect condition. A fine piece of rare original movie memorabilia from one of the Hollywood’s greatest films.
Trivia: Despite the film’s box-office failure, Warner Brothers shipped 320,000 rental copies to U.S. video stores, a figure a spokesman freely admitted was “out of whack” with the film’s performance in theaters. The film became the most rented video of 1995, and one of the highest-grossing video rentals of all time.…more detail
