“What we shall be facing in a few hours’ time is not a man. He is evil incarnate. He is the embodiment of all that is evil. He is the very Devil himself. He is The Lord of the Undead. He is Count Dracula !”

A stunning country of origin British UK one sheet from the 1970’s release of  Hammer’s “Scars of Dracula”. Mike Vaughan’s distinctive artwork is perfectly suited by the portrait style and use of just three bold colours; deep red, dark green & white and his close up portrayal of Lee as Dracula in full blood stained fang mode carries evil menace aplenty. A very rare find as most of the British one sheets were printed in extremely low numbers for primary use outside of Britain. Totally unrestored and presented in near perfect rolled (as issued) condition this eye-catching Hammer horror poster displays and excellent effect and represents a fantastically gruesome item of extremely desirable and collectible British horror movie memorabilia.

Trivia: This is Michael Ripper‘s third consecutive appearance in a Hammer “Dracula” film, given that he previously played Max in Dracula Has Risen from the Grave (1968) and Inspector Cobb in Taste the Blood of Dracula (1970). He is the only person other than Christopher Lee to appear in all three films. He also played a coachman in The Brides of Dracula(1960), in which Lee did not appear.

Film Description

Scars of Dracula Movie Poster

“A young man, Paul Carlson, is on a trip and spends the night at count Dracula’s castle. Needless to say, he is murdered. After some time has passed, the young man’s brother Simon comes to the small town where all the traces end to look for him.”

The Prince of Darkness is revived by a bat that hovers over his crumbling remains dripping blood onto it. Shortly after this a girl is found dead under suspicious circumstances and angry local villagers get into action and carry out an amazingly inept revenge act. It doesn’t work of course, and soon we are off on another blood soaked vampire romp.…

Scars of Dracula is the most bloody of the entries in the Hammer Dracula series. With a particularly gruesome slaughter in a church a standout moment of macabre nastiness. And a sadistic whipping meted out by the count another example of the more sadistic approach of this movie. Christopher Lee is on hand again with another typically reliable performance. Character actor Patrick Troughton plays his grimy sidekick, while Anouska Hempel appears as his slinky fellow female vampire. Anouska is sadly underused here but will be familiar to those of you that have seen the impressive later erotic horror film Vampyres. Unlike that latter film, Scars doesn’t feature any actual nudity as it appears in the Hammer cycle before they started incorporating that. Beyond the gore there isn’t anything overly different in this entry, it’s the usual staple of features you would expect of a Hammer Dracula film. Although if you are a fan of the series then this is not necessarily a bad thing.

Some sets have a title card, which contains credits and artwork, essentially a mini-poster. The remaining seven cards are coloured photographic credits and poster artwork showing different scenes from the movie.

THREE-SHEET
41 x 81″ printed on paper. These were printed on two or three separate sheets designed to overlap, few survive. Used for larger advertising spaces, normally posted on walls, perfect for huge movie theatres the drive-in, where people could see them from a distance. From the 1970’s on, three-sheets were sometimes printed in one piece and issued as “international” versions to be used abroad.
