“It all gets ironed out. Money is an iron. Those creases all get smoothed out by money.”
After its extraordinary success in Cannes and at several award ceremonies including the Oscars, Bong Joon Ho’s brilliant “Parasite” (2019) returned for a limited run in 2020 in this special black-and-white screen version. The transfer was done by director Bong and the release was accompanied by a striking black and white Quad poster, designed by Andrew Bannister which reversed the view as used on the original 2019 first release design. Without doubt the scarcest poster for the title (even rarer than the La Boca ‘open-house’ design) this example came from the Curzon Cinema, Mayfair, London where the only screenings of this black and white version were shown. Originally rolled (as issued) it presents and displays to excellent effect that represents an outstanding and extremely scarce ‘modern’ film poster and a fantastic piece of exclusive cinematic movie memorabilia.
Trivia: Only the third film to win both the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and the Academy Award for Best Picture, after The Lost Weekend (1945) and Marty (1955)

“Jobless, penniless, and, above all, hopeless, the unmotivated patriarch, Ki-taek, and his equally unambitious family–his supportive wife, Chung-sook; his cynical twentysomething daughter, Ki-jung, and his college-age son, Ki-woo–occupy themselves by working for peanuts in their squalid basement-level apartment. Then, by sheer luck, a lucrative business proposition will pave the way for an ingeniously insidious scheme, as Ki-woo summons up the courage to pose as an English tutor for the teenage daughter of the affluent Park family. Now, the stage seems set for an unceasing winner-take-all class war. How does one get rid of a parasite ?”
“Parasite“ was directed and written by Bong Joon Ho and tells the story of the Kim family and their life-changing involvement with the Park family.
“Parasite“ can best be described as astonishing, astounding, stunning or any other synonym of amazing. It is so far my favourite film of the year and one of my favourite films of the decade. The very idea of the plot is simple but incredibly hard to execute and that’s, why it’s editing, is pitch-perfect and leads to an unexpectedly shocking and brutal ending.
The biggest forte of “Parasite“ is the screenplay as it impeccably mixes comedy, drama and horror featuring flawless pacing, breath-taking cinematography, a beautiful score and a brilliant cast making it a masterpiece. Parasite also perfectly presents the subject of classism, showing us how both the working class and the upper class view each other and the people around them. Themes of capitalism can also be felt throughout the film, but “Parasite“ shouldn’t be mistaken as a pro-capitalism film as it doesn’t support or hate anyone or any side; it’s ambiguity also contributes to this factor.
Taking everything into account, “Parasite“ is a true work of art and a rare and extraordinary masterpiece that should be viewed by everyone at some point in their lives, especially film lovers.
