“Magical film about New York City and those looking for love”
An exceptional looking movie poster for the Park Circus (BFI) 2006 release of Woody Allen’s 1979 romantic comedy “Manhattan”. A celebration of New York this original UK quad film poster is the much admired ‘Bridge’ version featuring the famous skyline logo design by Joseph Caroff – the first A is the Chrysler Building, the H the Twin Towers followed by the A representing The Empire State Building….Perfectly suited the the British landscape format this really is a beautifully designed poster. Originally rolled (as issued) this displays superbly retaining a crisp whiteness to its finish and deep black tones for the artwork. This excellent unrestored example presents near perfectly and represents an exceptional piece of collectible original film memorabilia. Woody Allen is the king of the obscure New York comedy and this outstanding example will not disappoint.
Trivia: The famous bridge shot was done at five in the morning. The production had to bring their own bench, because there were no park benches at the location. The bridge had two sets of necklace lights on a timer controlled by the city. When the sun came up, the bridge lights went off. Cinematographer Gordon Willis made arrangements with the city to leave the lights on and that he would let them know when they got the shot. Afterwards, they could be turned off. As they started to shoot the scene, one string of bridge lights went out, and Woody Allen was forced to use that take.…more detail
