Probably the most important film of ‘modern’ cinema, launching a movie trend that is now commonly referred to as the ‘Summer Blockbuster’. It also happens to be one of the best and most memorable movie poster images ever ! So why reinvent it ? Of all the different variations for a “Jaws” poster, this alternative movie poster based (only slightly tweaked) on his original 1976 design is by leading Thai artist Banhan Thaitanaboon, is considered one of the best. Roger Kastel’s original design of the huge Great White Shark about to break the waterline and devour the naked female swimmer has been adapted. The top half of the poster includes incredible lifelike illustrations of the key actor’s Quint (Robert Shaw), Chief Brody (Roy Scheider) and Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss), with some action thrown for good measure as the shark attacks Hooper in the underwater cage. Film and alternative movie posters by Thai artists are starting to gain a strong following with collectors, and with artists like Ise Ananphada, Banhan, Kwow and Tongdee Panumas, it’s easy to see why. Printed by Baker Press, this very limited release of only 40, has been hand-signed in gold pen with a full signature by the artist – Banhan Thaitanaboon. Totally unrestored this beautiful rolled, unfolded (as issued) example displays to exceptional effect, and with 11 coloured inks used, as expected the colours pop from the paper. Trivia: Several decades after the film’s release, Lee Fierro, who played Mrs. Kintner, walked into a seafood restaurant and noticed that the menu had an “Alex Kintner Sandwich.” She commented that she had played his mother so many years ago; the owner of the restaurant ran out to meet her, and he was none other than Jeffrey Voorhees, who had played her son. They had not seen each other since the original movie shoot.

What is Giclee ?
Derived from the French term gicler – meaning ‘to squirt or spray’, the term describes a printing process whereby microscopic dots of pigment-based ink are sprayed onto archival-quality paper to ensure the fidelity of a limited edition print to an original artwork.
The richness, accuracy and depth of colour is thanks to the method’s potential to achieve a huge colour gamut (the spectrum of colours distinguishable by the human eye). Unlike the four tones used in lithography, giclées often use five: light cyan, cyan, light magenta, yellow and black.
Fantastic for reproductions which require maximum detail, giclées are most commonly found on watercolour paper or canvas, but can also be created on glass. Different types of paper will produce different effects. Matte paper works well behind glass due its lack of reflectivity, whilst the shine of a glossy finish can give an artwork a brighter appearance.

An outstanding alternative movie poster by the maestro of British horror art, Graham Humphreys for John Carpenter’s horror, sci-fi classic “The Thing”. Trivia: Unused music composed for this film was later used by Ennio Morricone in Quentin Tarantino‘s The Hateful Eight (2015). Ironically, Morricone’s Thing score was nominated for a Razzie for worst score, while his score for Hateful Eight won him an Oscar.

In 2003 John Dower’s Brit Pop documentary “Live Forever” was released….Featuring the talents of Oasis, Blur, Pulp, Jarvis Cocker, Noel Gallagher, Liam Gallagher, Damon Albarn, Toby Young and Damien Hirst. An excellent documentary capturing the phenomenon of the Britpop passage. It is worth noting that I think that even if you didn’t get the whole Britpop experience it is still worth watching to try and understand exactly what the period of time tried to encapsulate. Dragging Britain from a period of being totally dormant, to generating great music and creating an aura of genuine invincibility. A highlight of the film has to be the Damien Hirst designed UK quad movie poster. A real eye catching, talking piece poster for a movie that quickly became a cult classic. Genuinely scarce and in very short supply due to a limited cinema release. Never commercially available it is believed that there are a small number currently in circulation making genuine examples such as the one of offer here even more desirable.
Limited Edition Damien Hirst prints regularly sell for £1,000+ so this original ”Live Forever” UK quad movie poster represents exceptional value and it looks really cool !

A beautiful alternative movie poster by Hero Complex Gallery SIGNED BY SIX OF THE CAST and featuring the incredible horror artwork of Vance Kelly for one of the best vampire films ever made…Joel Schumacher’s “The Lost Boys”. This 2018 hand-numbered (#61/325) limited edition release is a proper horror poster as leader of The Lost Boys – David (Kiefer Sutherland) is the main focus with his vampire family and would be vampire hunters blended into the background and printed using an incredible colour palette of blood reds inks. For a nice finishing flourish, Kelly has cleverly framed his subjects in a V (for vampire) design. Presented in excellent condition this rolled (as issued) example displays superbly and has been signed by six of the cast, who in addition to their name have added their character or a quote; Kiefer Sutherland – David, Jason Patric – Michael, Alex Winter – Marko, Billy Wirth – Dwayne, Tim Cappello (saxophone player) – I still believe is and G Tom Mac – Cry Little Sister. An impressive piece of horror poster artwork and is a hugely desirable alternative movie poster that with the addition of the signatures makes for an incredible piece of memorabilia. This is THE teenage angst vampire movie with this high grade poster showcasing the teen vampires in all their undead glory…“Something I never could stomach about Santa Carla, all the damn vampires!”

Trivia: In the cave of the Lost Boys, you can see a poster of Jim Morrison, who recorded the original version of “People are Strange” with The Doors. Also, when Star and Laddie are being carried into Sam’s room, you can see a poster of Echo & The Bunnymen, who recorded the version used in the movie.

“Let the festivities begin”
Titled “The May Queen” this impressive giclee art print inspired by Ari Aster’s cult classic horror film “MidSommar” features the beautiful and intricate artwork of Ukrainian artist Ann Bembi, who’s photo-realistic style perfectly suits the content. With shades of “Wicker Man” the bright colours and sea of flowers can’t hide the anguish and fear of lead actress Florence Pugh (Dani). A lovely alternative movie poster for this slow-burn pagan horror that has a rapidly growing cult following. Available for a strictly limited one-hour time window on April 5th 2022 when 580 were ordered, with the poster here being hand-numbered #222. Originally rolled (as issued) it presents and displays to excellent effect and represents an outstanding piece of horror genre movie memorabilia.
Trivia: The practice of ättestupa is effectively a myth. As depicted in the movie, the elderly were expected to sacrifice for the good of the village, maintaining efficiency.

Tim Burton seems like the only being on the planet who could come with characters such as the ones found in “The Nightmare Before Christmas” The feature is literally a tale likely to be found in a child’s dreams It creates a world of its own, inhabiting unforgettable characters, events that should be shared with generations This film is a visual masterpiece; a movie that deserves its reputation as a timeless “Burtonesque” classic. These two impressive fine art prints featuring the two main characters – Jack Skellington and Sally perfectly captures all of Burton’s stylish elements and are both SIGNED BY TIM BURTON. Outstanding artwork and design for this rather unusual Disney production . These flat/unfolded (as issued) examples looks beautiful and display to marvellous effect, representing a a fantastic piece of original movie memorabilia for an innovative and popular film maker.

Trivia: Jack’s doorbell is a nod to a similar contraption in the Addams Family original TV series.

“Act like you own the place…”
Through films like Okja and Snowpiercer, director Bong Joon Ho has dazzled audiences with his unique knack for blending genres to tell layered, one-of-a-kind stories and now in the South Korean black comedy thriller “Parasite” he is receiving the critical and commercial acclaim he so richly deserves. To complement the Oscar success the hugely respected alternative movie poster printer Mondo commissioned Rory Kurtz to design a poster to complement the success. Winning four (4) Oscars at the 2020 ceremony, including Best Picture, Directing, International Feature Film and Writing (Original Screenplay). Kurtz’ artwork captures the seemingly picture-perfect moment between the happily rich Parks completely oblivious to what’s unfolding around them, and the Kim family relegated to the shadows struggling with their own complex feelings toward such wealth and privilege. Trivia: Michael Parks reprises his character as Sheriff Earl McGraw in Planet Terror (2007). He also played Sheriff Earl McGraw in Robert Rodriguez’s From Dusk Till Dawn (1996), as well as Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003), and Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004).
