“They did not save your life… They stole it.”

“Ghost in the Shell” sees Scarlett Johansson star as Major Mira Killian, saved from a terrible crash, who is cyber-enhanced to be a perfect soldier in the American 2017 adaption of Shirow Masamune’s  cult Japanese manga creation and anime movie. A colourful and action packed cyber-punk offering from director Rupert Sanders that is very much mirrored in the design of the original British UK quad film poster by creative arts agency LA offered here. Originally rolled (as issued) this looks and displays to excellent effect. Guaranteed original this represents a scarce item of modern original collectable movie memorabilia from a truly exciting and cool film.

Trivia: In an establishing shot of the city, a Pan Am advert can be seen in the top left. The bankrupt airlines inclusion is a reference to Blade Runner (1982) which also had an in-film advert for them.

Film Description

Ghost in the Shell Movie Poster

“In the near future, human organs are enhanced by the cybernetics technology developed by the powerful Hanka Robotics Corporation owned by Cutter. Dr. Ouelet is responsible for the development of the secret project 2571 of a full mechanical body to be connected to a human brain. She uses the brain of a young woman that lost her parents in a cyber attack as subject of a prototype. One year later, the woman is ranked Major and has joined Section 9, an anti-terrorist division commanded by Chief Daisuke Aramaki, working with agents Batou and Togusa. She needs to use a medicine to help the integration of her brain with the mechanical body and has no recollections of her previous life. When Section 9 hunts down the terrorist Kuze, Major learns the secrets about Hanka Robotics and the experiment she was subjected. Now she faces her ultimate enemy: Kuze, a criminal who has managed to hack into the brains of androids and control them”

The 2017 live action science fiction anime Ghost In The Shell stars Scarlett Johansson, Takeshi Kitano, Michael Pitt, Pilou Asbæk, Chin Han and Juliette Binoche, set in a near future when the line between humans and robots is blurring, the plot follows the Major (Johansson), a cyborg supersoldier who investigates her past.

A visually compelling, engaging film. Brilliant cinematography, story immersion and a top notch performance by Scarlett Johansson et al. The set design is just perfect and everything feels like Tokyo 2050.

This movie is a prime example of the dangers of public consensus. From its inception, ‘Ghost In The Shell was hampered and criticised for being a “white washed” adaptation. I went into this with that in mind and still thoroughly enjoyed everything after realizing a story can be told through a different lens.

LOBBY CARD
11 x 14″ printed on heavy stock paper. Used as display in theatre lobbies. Originally made in sets of eight. Some sets have a title card, which contains credits and artwork, essentially a mini-poster. The remaining seven cards are coloured photographic credits and poster artwork showing different scenes from the movie.

WINDOW CARD

HALF SHEET
22 x 28″ printed on heavy stock paper. The image displayed is normally a smaller version of the main poster, although some do have different artworks and sometimes come in two versions.

INSERT

41 x 81″ printed on paper. These were printed on two or three separate sheets designed to overlap, few survive. Used for larger advertising spaces, normally posted on walls, perfect for huge movie theatres the drive-in, where people could see them from a distance. From the 1970’s on, three-sheets were sometimes printed in one piece and issued as “international” versions to be used abroad.
