    Being There

    £395.00

“Getting there is half the fun…BEING THERE is all of it !”

A surreal looking Polish One-Sheet for Hal Ashby’s Oscar winning “Being There” (1979) with artwork by Maria ‘Mucha’ Ihnatowicz for the first Polish release in 1982. With bright colours and distinctive painted illustration, it is a perfect complement to what is a excellent (dark) comedy film featuring a standout performance by Peter Sellers. A beautiful, stylish piece of film poster art that is unique to this Polish release. Originally rolled  (as issued) this beautiful unrestored 1979 example displays and presents to excellent effect and represents one of the most collectable Peter Sellers’ film posters available.

Trivia: It took Peter Sellers nearly nine years to get this movie made by a studio, mainly because by the 1970s Sellers’ career had hit rock bottom and no studio in Hollywood would work with him. After the revival (and success) of the Pink Panther movies, Lorimar Pictures finally greenlit the project.

  • Just a Gigolo Movie Poster

    Just a Gigolo

    £275.00

“He has no skills and can only find menial, low-paying jobs. He decides to become a gigolo to lonely rich women.”

Supreme example of Tom Chantrell’s stunning artwork; an extremely rare original 1978 UK Quad film poster for the David Bowie drama “Just a Gigolo”. This film was perfect for Bowie (you could genuinely believe he was a 1920s pseudo aristocrat) as the extravagantly named Paul Ambrosius von Przygodski. Tom Chantrell’s artwork (unique to the British release) places Bowie centre stage, cleverly portrayed in black and white whilst the supporting cast, including Kim Novak and Marlene Dietrich (her last movie appearance) are featured in full colour. With only minimal handling wear, this originally rolled (as issued), unrestored example displays to beautiful effect. The deep black background contrasted with vibrant colours makes for a truly impressive piece. One of Bowie’s most stylish movie posters and a fantastic piece of highly collectable original movie and music memorabilia and a perfect showcase for Chantrell’s incredible talent at catching an actors likeness.

Trivia: The last on-screen appearance by Marlene Dietrich. German press reports claimed she was paid $250,000 for two days’ work.

  • Licorice Pizza Movie Poster

    Licorice Pizza

    £125.00

“I knew it! I knew that was what you were thinking. You’re always thinking things, you thinker! You thinker! You think things!”

“Licorice Pizza” is a Paul Thomas Anderson nostalgic romcom of sorts about a teenager and the much older woman he wants to have a romance with in 1970s California filmed around characters and situations from the entertainment industry of the day, eccentric, off-beat and very period appropriate. “Licorice Pizza” was a cult success on its release with Anderson’s loyal fanbase hailing another solid cinematic offering. Only having a very limited run and showing in a small number of (largely ‘art-house’ or ‘independent’) cinemas any paper from the film is scarce and in very short supply, making this originally rolled (as issued) Kat Reeder designed one-sheet from 2021 a really great find. It displays to excellent effect and represents an extremely hard yo find, modern original collectable movie memorabilia from a truly talented writer/director.

Trivia: The term “Licorice Pizza” is slang for a vinyl record, particularly albums which were known as LPs for Long Play, hence Licorice Pizza. Also, the vinyl record is black, which is the color of licorice, and the shape is flat and round, like a pizza.

Beautiful distinctive character imagery; a great black & white character shot of ‘Ratso’ (Dustin Hoffman and ‘Joe’ (Jon Voight). Originally rolled (as issued) this example displays and presents to excellent effect with pure bright white background and crisp colour imagery. Showing in only a handful of independent and art-house cinemas the advertising campaign was very low key and the UK film poster that accompanied the extremely limited cinema release is truly hard to find with this fine example representing an impressive item of collectable original cinematic memorabilia.

Trivia: Dustin Hoffman kept pebbles in his shoe to ensure his limp would be consistent from shot to shot.

“Act like you own the place…”

Through films like Okja and Snowpiercer, director Bong Joon Ho has dazzled audiences with his unique knack for blending genres to tell layered, one-of-a-kind stories and now in the multi Academy Award winning “Parasite” he is receiving the critical and commercial acclaim he so richly deserves.
