“From a barbed-wire camp to a barbed-wire country, they made…THE GREAT ESCAPE !”
A very rare find, these original release theatrical posters just don’t turn up and are incredibly scarce. One of the biggest films of all times certainly deserves a big poster and this original 1963 US Three-Sheet movie poster for John Sturges’ wartime adventure “The Great Escape” certainly impresses. Frank McCarthy’s ‘countdown’ artwork looks superb featuring Bartlett “Big X” (Richard Attenbrough), Hendley-“The Scrounger” (James Garner) and of course heading the group Hilts-“Cooler King” (Steve McQueen). The large format makes for a truly stunning piece that presents very well and represents a superb example of very rare collectable film memorabilia from one of the greatest film’s ever made and featuring a character and final scene that has become synonymous with screen legend Steve McQueen and is regarded as a much loved classic and one of McQueen’s signature roles.
Trivia: During the climactic motorcycle chase, director John Sturges allowed Steve McQueen to ride (in disguise) as one of the pursuing German soldiers, so that in the final sequence, through the magic of editing, he’s actually chasing himself. McQueen played the German motorcyclist who hits the wire.

A very rare find, an original 2022 alternative movie poster by Steve Chorney for John Sturges’ wartime adventure “The Great Escape”. One of the biggest films of all times certainly deserves a striking poster and Chorney’s limited edition offering certainly impresses. As a homage to posters of the 60s and 70s the great ensemble cast have their headshots in a row towards the bottom of the design, Hendley -“The Scrounger” (James Garner), Danny – “The Tunnel King” (Charles Bronson), Danny – “The Tunnel King” (Charles Bronson), Ashley-Pitt “Dispersal” (David McCallum), Blythe – The Forger” (Donald Pleasence), Bartlett “Big X” (Richard Attenbrough), Sedgwick “Manufacturer” (James Coburn) and of course dominating the imagery Hilts-“Cooler King” (Steve McQueen), not just an incredible headshot, but McQueen in action (from the finale of the movie) attempting his legendary motorbike jump escape. Although the most memorable scene from the film it doesn’t feature on any of the original 1963 paper and only on a handful or later release posters, making this artwork, super desirable. A nice touch is the inclusion of Hannes Messemer who played the Kamp Kommandant Von Luger. Released as a limited edition, hand-numbered (#88/90) fine art print, the giclee finish gives a freshly painted effect. What is Giclee ?
Derived from the French term gicler – meaning ‘to squirt or spray’, the term describes a printing process whereby microscopic dots of pigment-based ink are sprayed onto archival-quality paper to ensure the fidelity of a limited edition print to an original artwork.
The richness, accuracy and depth of colour is thanks to the method’s potential to achieve a huge colour gamut (the spectrum of colours distinguishable by the human eye). Unlike the four tones used in lithography, giclées often use five: light cyan, cyan, light magenta, yellow and black.
Fantastic for reproductions which require maximum detail, giclées are most commonly found on watercolour paper or canvas, but can also be created on glass. Different types of paper will produce different effects. Matte paper works well behind glass due its lack of reflectivity, whilst the shine of a glossy finish can give an artwork a brighter appearance.

Quentin Tarantino’s 8th Film…“The Hateful Eight” is a bloody, brutal, who dun-it epic. Released in 2015 it proved a huge commercial & critical success and in keeping with previous Tarantino movie merchandising offerings the film posters have became very collectible. Officially licensed by Tarantino who worked closely with artist, Jason Edmiston and Mondo’s team to create an image that represented the films iconic and titular “eight,” while also wanting to pay special attention to the lush, vast snowy landscapes captured in glorious 70mm. Edmiston has truly achieved what I feel to be among his best and certainly most technically proficient screen prints ever. The artist had this to say about the project…”Quentin Tarantino is my favorite contemporary director, and Mondo thrilled me with the offer to attack an official poster for his latest movie, THE HATEFUL EIGHT. Enthralled by the film, I accepted the challenge. The eight titular characters are as equally important to the plot of the movie as the super wide, glorious 70 millimeter Panavision presentation. I wanted to feature both the diverse personalities and the beautiful, expansive landscape during a raging snow storm that reflects the energy inside the Haberdashery. Stylistically, Italian western posters of the 60s and 70s influenced my approach since this production shares many of those films’ typical characters and plot cues. I also wanted to maintain as much of my painted style as possible within the limitations of screen printing. I maximized the three-dimensional quality by purposefully layering my background, middle-ground and foreground elements to tell a story. Starting with a full value, black and white traditional painting, I then finalized it digitally. Comprised of 10 layers, created one at a time, the completed work combines a mix of opaque and transparent inks to emulate a full color watercolor painting. The entire process from concept to final poster took nearly 6 weeks. It was a labor of love and perhaps my proudest accomplishment to date”…Totally unrestored this originally rolled unfolded (as issued) example (#424/2975) displays to excellent effect with only minimal handling wear. Perfect, bright colours this is a truly outstanding and extremely rare film poster that represents a key item of highly sought after modern Quentin Tarantino movie memorabilia.
Trivia: Takes place in the same universe as Quentin Tarantino‘s previous film, Django Unchained(2012), even though it is not a sequel. Ironically, Samuel L. Jackson and Walton Goggins play villains in that movie, and are the good guys in this one.

“They called him “Fast Eddie”… He was a winner… He was a loser… He was a hustler.”
Rarely is a reissue poster more highly treasured than the original release, but this is – “The Hustler” one-sheet is one such title. When this movie was first released, the studio seemed to want to hide that it was about “pool hustling”, and it was sold as being a romance, and there was little to no mention (or images) of pool on any of the first release 1961 posters. But when the movie was quickly re-released three years later in 1964, it had become an Academy Award winning classic, and learning from their mistakes, the new marketing campaign featured a striking stylised design – a pool cue with images of the actors within billiard balls set against a green baize background. An absolute must-have example with an iconic design and use of bold colours which literally do ‘pop’ out from the paper of this stunning original country of origin American poster. Originally folded (as issued) the example offered here has been professionally conservation linen backed to a very high standard and appears rolled. It represents a hugely collectable and desirable example of cinema movie memorabilia for one of the defining sports based movies ever made. A truly classic movie and poster.
Trivia: All the pool shots in the movie are performed by the actors themselves (Paul Newman and Jackie Gleason) except one: the massé shot (cue ball sends two object balls into the same pocket), performed by Willie Mosconi.

“Some Secrets Are Too Huge To Hide”
An amazing, colourful, full of fun film poster from first year of release 1999 for Brad Bird’s giant alien robot animated adventure “The Iron Giant”. This really is stunning, retro styling and beautiful rich blue/green colour tones, this country of origin US one sheet is the incredibly scarce International version. Originally rolled (as issued) it presents and displays to excellent effect. Perfectly designed to suit the portrait layout of a one sheet it certainly impresses and represents a great looking, cleverly imagined piece of original movie memorabilia…“For the child in all of us ?”
Trivia: The Iron Giant and Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy are both voiced by Vin Diesel and, in both times, the sound technician that worked on it was Doc Kane. Both characters end up sacrificing themselves, but are ultimately resurrected.

“She Loved Men… To Death.”
A glorious looking film poster full of colour, designed by Fred Davis with beautiful finished artwork of the ‘love witch’ Samantha Robinson by the extremely talented illustrator Michael Koelsch. Anna Biller’s dark horror comedy was very well received, critically & commercially on its 2016 release and is regarded as a classy ‘modern’ homage to the cheesy ‘B’ movie horror films that prospered during the 1970’s. This country of origin US one-sheet movie poster is from first year of release 2016 and hugely sought after by the film’s hardcore and loyal fan base and horror fans alike. Having a a very limited release, primarily in a small number of ‘art-house’ & ‘specialist’ cinemas combined with a low key advertising campaign the movie poster that accompanied the release is truly scarce. Originally rolled (as issued) this superb unrestored example presents and displays to excellent effect & represents a really exceptional piece of original ‘cult’ film movie memorabilia.

Although a relatively recent release any paper for Disney’s smash hit Star Wars series “The Mandalorian” is extremely sought after. This fan favourite award winning show has been the subject of a series of alternative movie posters, some good and some not so good, but in 2023 artist Paul Mann was commissioned to create his version and it really is one of the best. This ‘Only One Way’ fine art print orange variant, hand-numbered #14/75 is truly eye-catching and super stylish as Mann focuses on the lead and supporting characters. The deep, rich orange and gold colour palette is particularly eye-catching. Originally rolled (as issued) this looks and displays to excellent effect that represents a hugely collectable item of movie memorabilia that looks very very cool ! With Mando and Grogu already firmly established as a fans favourite this impressive item represents a fine addition for any collector of movie posters or Star Wars fan memorabilia.

On its release at the dawn of a new Millenia the Wachowski Brother’s ground breaking science fiction blockbuster “The Matrix” influenced everything from fashion, technology, how movies are made and introducing us to…Bullet-Time. This 2025 alternative movie poster by Pablo Olivera is an outstanding re-design that takes you to the heart of the matrix with its wealth of lore and symbology from the mega-hit, Pablo’s print is a thrilling look back at the film’s imagery and themes – “You take the blue pill – the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill – you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.”. It is a fine art giclee print where the colours literally pop from the paper and one of best examples I have seen that uses this printing process – the colours, in this case neon pinks, purples and blues are incredibly rich giving a true hand painted effect. This Purple Variant edition has been Hand-Numbered #11/75 that represents a cool looking film poster from a “game-changing” movie. A true modern classic that displays superbly and is presented in excellent rolled condition.
Trivia: All scenes that take place within the Matrix have a green tint, as if watching them through a computer monitor. Scenes in the real world have a blue tint. Blue was also used at a minimum within the Matrix, since the directors thought blue was more of a real-world color (despite, ironically, blue being often the least-occurring color in nature). The fight scene between Morpheus and Neo, which is neither in the real world, nor in the Matrix, is tinted yellow.

With artwork by Timothy Pittides this limited edition alternative movie poster for Richard Donner’s 1976 horror classic “The Omen” is an impressive example of horror art that truly evokes the mystique and symbolism surrounding the movie with the artist having this to say about the commission – “When Rob Jones first approached me about THE OMEN, my brain went in a million different directions. Any time I consider a licensed property, my first thought is ‘How do I do this in a way that is unique in concept, and to me? The film is littered with memorable visuals, many of which propel it beyond its genre, and into the realm of pop culture consciousness. Ultimately, rather than recreating a literal scene, I wanted to portray something that occurs outside the frames of the film. Something sinister in nature with a hint of macabre beauty: Damien’s entrance into our world. This idea felt as natural as it did disturbing. Inking this beast of an image took close to 175 hours, and includes 55 colour layers done by hand. The artwork was rendered larger than I normally do to make sure all the dotwork stayed within correct proportions when elevated to poster size. It was tedious, but well worth it in the end”. From 2020 this hand-numbered example is #2 from a print run of only 100 and is presented rolled, flat and unfolded (as issued) and displays to excellent effect. A horror classic and a personal favourite movie with this art print an impressive item of cinematic movie memorabilia from one of the defining movie’s of the genre.
Trivia: Harvey Stephens, as Damien, was largely chosen for this role from the way he attacked Richard Donner during auditions. Donner asked all the little boys to “come at him” as if they were attacking Katherine Thorn during the church wedding scene. Stephens screamed and clawed at Donner’s face, and kicked him in the groin during his act. Donner whipped the kid off him, ordered the kid’s blond hair dyed black and cast him as Damien.
