  • Midnight Cowboy Movie Poster

    Midnight Cowboy

    £95.00

“Whatever you hear about Midnight Cowboy is true”

A classic and scarce original 2019 BFI 50th Anniversary 4K release British UK quad film poster for John Schlesinger’s multi Award winning “Midnight Cowboy”, still the only X-Rated movie to win an Oscar. It was nominated for seven and won three including Best Director for John Schlesinger which was an (then) unheard of return for an ‘X’ film. Beautiful distinctive character imagery; a great black & white character shot of ‘Ratso’ (Dustin Hoffman and ‘Joe’ (Jon Voight). Originally rolled (as issued) this example displays and presents to excellent effect with pure bright white background and crisp colour imagery. Showing in only a handful of independent and art-house cinemas the advertising campaign was very low key and the UK film poster that accompanied the extremely limited cinema release is truly hard to find with this fine example representing an impressive item of collectable original cinematic memorabilia.

Trivia: Dustin Hoffman kept pebbles in his shoe to ensure his limp would be consistent from shot to shot.

  • Predator Movie Poster

    Predator

    £425.00

“It came for the thrill of the hunt…It picked the wrong man to hunt”

One of the best films of the 1980’s and certainly one of Schwarzenegger’s finest roles, Predator is a film I’ve seen more times than I care to remember. Directed by John McTiernan, who would go on to helm “Die Hard” the following year (arguably the greatest action movie ever made), the film is an excellent mix of gung-ho action and sci-fi horror with a truly iconic monster (designed by Stan Winston). The rare and original UK quad film poster offered here is from first year of release 1987 and was created by a team at the FEREF design agency, including Stephen Laws, Frank Hillary and acclaimed movie poster artist Brian Bysouth. This was one of the first film posters by the artist to have been created with photo composition and not painted, as had been the case with his previous posters. This ‘thermal imaging’ version has a great action image of Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and is considered a classic amongst collectors of the genre. Originally folded (as issued – the fold lines are soft from being stored flat for a number of years) this beautiful unrestored example displays and presents to excellent effect. Sought after and extremely hard to find in this high grade condition it represents a fine piece of collectable original movie memorabilia.

Trivia: The mandibles of the Predator were the idea of James Cameron.

  • Robocop Alternative Movie Poster

    Robocop

    £195.00

“Part man. Part machine. All cop. The future of law enforcement.”

Based upon Rob Bottin’s iconic ‘robo’ suit design Paul Mann produced the perfect alternative movie poster to complement his graphics. A truly striking image for Paul Verhoeven’s ultra violent sci-fi masterpiece “Robocop” that is perfectly suited to the portrait format of this edition. Robocop is offset against a colourful background of supporting characters and action imagery, that are made to stand out when placed in front of the black background. It gives a depth that gives an almost 3D effect to the colour imagery. Printed by Mad Duck in 2022 this limited edition art print is hand-numbered #47 from a print run of 200. This excellent example presents and displays near perfectly and represents a fantastic piece of collectable movie memorabilia from one of the defining movies of the 80’s. The ‘original’ & BEST, “Robocop” is fondly remembered and spawned a popular TV show, two sequels and was recently remade as a ‘big budget’ CGI sci-fi actioner…“I’d buy that for a dollar !”

Trivia: The repeated line “I’d buy that for a dollar!” comes from Cyril M. Kornbluth‘s short story “The Marching Morons”, which presents a similarly cynical view of an over-commercialized future that’s desensitized to violence and war. A radio game show in that short story uses the line “I’d buy that for a quarter.” as its signature phrase.

The influence of John Badham’s “Saturday Night Fever” cannot be understated. A cultural phenomenon that pretty much affected everyone at some point…music, dancing, fashion, attitudes & John Travolta; perfectly cast as the local walking cliche Tony Manero. And it’s the familiar title logo with the multi-lit coloured discotheque floor, John Travolta in the iconic white suite and co-star Karen Lynn Gorney that dominate this original, country of origin, 1977 UA one-sheet movie poster. Presented in the portrait format that is perfectly suited by the content. Sid & Nancy

    £65.00

“Sidney’s more than a mere bass player. He’s a fabulous disaster. He’s a symbol, a metaphor, he embodies the dementia of a nihilistic generation. He’s a fuckin’ star.”

One of the rarer posters from Ale Cox’s movie that was meant to define punk’s ‘Posh & Becks’. This is the 2016, 30th Anniversary re-release for the punk-rocku-drama “Sid & Nancy”. Considering it was such a bleak and colourless film the use of bright yellow and red as a main part of the design is unusual to say the least. Still it works & this originally rolled (as issued) version displays and presents to excellent effect and looks superb. If you were a fan, a punk or identify with the film then this is a great snapshot of the time, the pop culture and the genre.

Trivia: Gary Oldman lived on a diet of steamed fish and melon to lose enough weight to play the emaciated, heroin-addicted Sid, and was hospitalized when he went too far and became malnourished.
