For the 40th Anniversary 2020 re-release of the George Lucas sci fi classic sequel “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back” Lucasfilm issued this amazing one-sheet featuring the artwork of Matt Ferguson, the hugely successful artist responsible for some of the most memorable recent Marvel cinematic releases. This ‘updated’ style features some of the best imagery from this instalment from the original trilogy with some fantastic key scene renditions and like many of the 1980 posters a dominant Darth Vader and the iconic Imperial Walkers. This eye-catching and desirable design was given a limited edition lenticular makeover in 2020 by Bottleneck Gallery and sold in 1 mm and 4mm editions. The poster offered here is printed on 1mm PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) and mounted on high-density paper backing, numbered #200/300. Lenticular printing is a technology in which lenticular lenses (a technology used for 3D displays) are used to produce printed images with an illusion of depth or the ability to change or move as the image is viewed from different angles. Truly scarce and highly sought after, Ferguson’s imagery is already firmly established as a fans favourite, and this impressive item represents a fine addition for any collector of original movie posters or Star Wars fan memorabilia.
Trivia: In order to avoid sharing creative rights, George Lucas decided to avoid using a major studio to finance this movie. Instead, he bankrolled the $18 million production himself, using a combination of his profits from Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977) and a bank loan. Although the move was risky, it paid off several times over. Lucas recovered his investment within three months of the movie’s release.

For the third chapter of the original Star Wars trilogy “Return of the Jedi” Lucasfilm successfully chose a number of internationally acclaimed artists to present a varied series of designs for the Worldwide advertising campaign. The poster here is the Yamakatsu issued Style A Japanese B2. Not an official cinema poster but was sold exclusively in a small number of Japanese cinemas where the movie was playing. At first view you would assume it to be a photo-montage design but it’s actually highly detailed artwork featuring all of the main characters and spacecraft. Only available in limited numbers and is rare and highly desirable. Presented here in excellent unrestored rolled (as issued) condition this incredible example looks superb. A fantastic item of collectable Star Wars movie memorabilia from what was (until 2015) the defining chapter in the Star Wars original trilogy.

For the third chapter of the original Star Wars trilogy Lucasfilm successfully chose a number of internationally acclaimed artists to present a varied series of designs for the Worldwide advertising campaign. Much like Darth Vader dominated the advance poster campaign for “Episode V” (the Dark) it is Tim Reamer’s single Lightsaber imagery that heralds the the third and final instalment (the Light) of the original trilogy. The poster here is the scarce large format (one-sheet size posters are printed in incredibly low numbers when compared to the more common B2s) Japanese B1 one-sheet by Tim Reamer which features Luke’s lightsaber pointing high to the stars. Presented here in fantastic unrestored folded (as issued) condition this beautiful example looks magnificent; deep unfaded vibrant colours where you can believe the lightsaber really is pulsing with power. An impressive piece of original Star Wars cinematic movie memorabilia from what was (until recently) the defining chapter in the Star Wars original trilogy. From a personal viewpoint I feel the Japanese typography perfectly suits the design and only adds to the overall effect.

Trivia: Leia strangling Jabba was an homage to the death of Luca Brasi in The Godfather (1972). George Lucas worked as an assistant editor on that movie.

For the third chapter of the original Star Wars trilogy “Return of the Jedi” Lucasfilm successfully chose a number of internationally acclaimed artists to present a varied series of designs for the Worldwide advertising campaign. One of the most revered was the Yamakatsu issued Style B Japanese B2 by the prominent Star Wars artist Noriyoshi Ohrai. Titled ‘Starfall’ . For the 40th Anniversary the imagery was licensed by the US clothing brand Kith and used to promote their exclusive collection of adults and kids’ apparel, along with commemorative accessories. You could only obtain one of these posters if you attended the launch event at the New York City store. Larger than the original B2s and with the ‘Return of the Jedi’ added these are incredibly sought after by collectors. Ohrai’s beautiful illustration is widely regarded as one of the best of any ‘Star Wars’ posters and is hugely desirable. Presented here in unrestored rolled (as issued) condition this amazing example looks magnificent; deep unfaded vibrant colours that truly ‘pop’ from the paper. A stunning poster that is genuinely very, very scarce and a must have addition for any Star Wars fan or movie poster collection from what was (until 2015) the defining chapter in the Star Wars original trilogy.

Struzan is now regarded as THE ‘Star Wars’ movie poster artist with this limited edition, hand-numbered example #2767/3000 very much a favourite with Star Wars collectors. Printed by Gore Graphics on heavy stock art paper and distributed by Kilian Enterprises, the print quality and colour saturation is incredible. Kilian considered the best of the best in respect of the limited edition Anniversary posters produced. Presented here in original unrestored condition this excellent rolled (as issued) example has some of the finest ‘Star Wars’ artwork EVER ! On the commission Struzan had the following to say “I always viewed it as the story of Luke Skywalker”

The Lucasfilm Ltd. advertising posters were issued in two distinct designs, that feature images of C-3PO and Darth Vader from the inaugural exhibition held at the Smithsonian Institute (National Air and Space Museum). On offer here is the C-3PO style. Princess Leia, Boba Fett, Yoda, the Death Star and an X-Wing makes for a banner strip at the top and bottom borders. Originally rolled this beautiful looking example displays as new & is investment grade quality. …more detail“The Way” by Rory Kurtz for Mondo was released to celebrate Season One of the hit TV series, and it is such a cool poster. Hand-Annotated ‘Archive 2’ as it has come directly from the personal archive of the artist Rory Kurtz and printed using eleven colour inks on Domtar Lynx Opaque 100# cover paper. Kurtz has this to say about the design “The Mandalorian is mysterious and iconic in aesthetic, and I felt the art should mirror that, with Mando holstering his blaster stoically amidst the smoke, ash, and fallen enemies of the recently finished battle”. This is a truly scarce alternative movie poster and highly sought after. With Mando and Grogu already firmly established as a fans favourite this impressive item represents a fine addition for any poster or art collector or Star Wars fan memorabilia.
“Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker” is a continuation of the Star Wars saga created by George Lucas and set over thirty years after Return of the Jedi and a few months after the events of “The Last Jedi”. The release of each instalment is always accompanied by a huge global marketing and merchandising campaign with the movie posters produced always being of the highest artistic quality. And I’m pleased to say that Episode IX keeps up the high standard; Created by design agency Art Machine the finished poster has magnificent dark powerful imagery as the ‘light’ and the ‘dark’ sides of the Force, Rey (Daisy Ridley) duels with Kylo Ten (Adam Driver). All ominously overlooked by the all powerful Emperor. It certainly pays homage to Drew Struzan’s iconic ‘Revenge’ artwork. The original UK quad film poster offered here is full UK quad size measuring 30″ x 40″ and is double sided. Guaranteed original and presented here in very good unrestored condition this beautiful rolled (as issued) example has minimal handling wear and looks fantastic. A rare and desirable example of original Star Wars movie memorabilia from what has become one of the most collectable and popular modern movie franchises…“Confronting fear is the destiny of a Jedi. Your destiny.”
