John Carpenter’s tale of alien occupation is part horror, part Sci-Fi and part social satire, all viewed through dark sun-glasses of Nada played by ex-pro WWF wrestler Roddy Piper . This original 1988 US one sheet “They Live” movie poster is a great looking example of John Carpenter paper from the 80’s and genuinely rare in this country of origin format. The striking design features a very close, close-up of ‘Nada’ with the Alien infiltrators reflected in his trademark sunglasses. Originally folded (as issued) it presents in very good original unrestored condition with only the minimal of fold line wear and strong bright colours. A cool, cult poster that represents very collectable & desirable original film memorabilia from one of the greatest and most influential director’s who is still actively working in the sci-fi / horror / action genre.
Trivia: Artist Shepard Fairey credits the film as a major source of inspiration, sharing a similar logo to his “OBEY” campaign. “They Live was…the basis for my use of the word ‘obey’,” Fairey said. “The movie has a very strong message about the power of commercialism and the way that people are manipulated by advertising.”

John Carpenter’s tale of alien occupation “They Live” is part horror, part sci-fi and part social satire, all viewed through dark sun-glasses of Nada played by ex-professional wrestler Roddy Piper. Considered one of Carpenter’s best it was one of four seminal movies by the director re-released by Studio Canal in 2018, remastered in 4K, with the others being “Escape From New York”, “Prince of Darkness” and “The Fog”. All four movies had a strictly limited cinematic release and were accompanied a newly designed poster campaign (quads and one-sheets) by leading artist Matt Ferguson. Ferguson’s unique artistic style is evident throughout the four, each with its very own unique colour palette. A number of these full-size 30″ x 40″ UK quad styles were also released as a limited edition art print by Vice Press. Identical to the cinematic quad, in fact exactly the same – same paper, printer etc these were issued as timed releases each signed and hand-numbered by Matt Ferguson. Offered here is one of these signed art prints numbered #48 from a print run of only 216. Originally rolled (as issued) it presents in excellent condition. A superb and eye-catching alternative movie poster by Graham Humphreys’ for the cult dark comedy horror “What We Do in the Shadows”. Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement.created the clever idea of a family of vampires living together under the same roof and the struggles they encounter in modern day life. Each vampire housemate bears some resemblance to a past screen vampire – Nosferatu, David (Lost Boys), Dracula (Gary Oldman), Edward (Twilight zone) and Louis fromInterview With the Vampire. And it’s these five who feature on this 2015 Hand-Numbered (#AP 39/40) Artist Proof print that has also been signed by the artist – Graham Humphrey. Presented in excellent unrestored, rolled (as issued) condition with amazingly vibrant colour tones that truly pop from the paper (the photo doesn’t do this justice)it almost appears to be painted. A super-cool piece of cinematic memorabilia and artwork.
Trivia: The hill where the vampires have a run-in with the werewolves is the same hill filmed in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), where Frodo and the hobbits are running from the Black Rider and hiding under the roots of a tree.

Trivia: The distinctive snakeskin jacket Sailor wears in the film was actually Nicolas Cage‘s own. Cage asked director David Lynch if he could wear the jacket in the film, as a tribute to Marlon Brando‘s role in The Fugitive Kind (1960). After filming was completed, Cage gave his jacket to Laura Dern.
