A global phenomenon when originally released in 1977 producing (at the time) a multitude of related merchandise including some exceptional commercial posters. Factors Inc of California, USA were responsible for some of the best and examples have gone on to become very collectable in their own right. Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) has become iconic and hugely popular; everyone loves a beautiful Princess, and really has become a major symbol for the franchise and a pivotal figure in the massive marketing and merchandising campaign that was to follow. Presented here on this original vintage 1977 fully studio authorised “Star Wars” poster. Presented in original unrestored high grade condition this an excellent rolled (as issued) example. This is one of the very first commercial posters for the movie and a very early release Star Wars merchandising poster. An incredibly scarce and desirable example of Star Wars memorabilia.

Trivia: George Lucas was so sure this movie would flop that instead of attending the premiere, he went on vacation to Hawaii with his good friend Steven Spielberg. It was on that vacation that they came up with the idea for Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981).

It certainly pays homage to some of Drew Struzan’s iconic ‘Star Wars’ artwork. The original US/International one-sheet movie poster offered here is full size measuring 27″ x 40″ and is double sided. Trivia: During the massive crowd celebration scene, C-3PO says that this event happens once every 42 years. This was the time between the first Star Wars movie to be released in 1977 and this film. However, the official time line in The Rise of Skywalker Visual Dictionary states that in the events of this film take place 35 years after that of A New Hope.

Absolutely beautiful, 1980 US one sheet movie poster for the George Lucas sci fi classic sequel “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back”. This Advance Studio style design features an incredible over-sized image of Darth Vader (so pivotal in this instalment of the franchise). After last being seen spinning off into outer space, the character of Vader was so popular after the first film that Lucas needed to assure the public that he was back for the sequel. Being originally folded (as issued) and totally unrestored this stunning example displays and presents to a very high standard with deep rich unfaded dark colours and represents a fine addition for any collector of original movie posters or Star Wars fan memorabilia.

Trivia:The entire Millennium Falcon was built life size for the first and only time for this instalment (only half of the spacecraft was constructed for Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977), and just part of it was used for the deleted sandstorm scene in Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983)). It measured sixty-five feet (19.8 meters) in diameter and sixteen feet (4.8 meters) in height, with a mandible giving it an overall length of eighty feet (24.3 meters). The Falcon’s weight was twenty-three tons (23 metric tons).

For the 40th Anniversary 2020 re-release of the George Lucas sci fi classic sequel “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back” Lucasfilm issued this amazing one-sheet featuring the artwork of Matt Ferguson, the hugely successful artist responsible for some of the most memorable recent Marvel cinematic releases. This ‘updated’ style features some of the best imagery from this instalment from the original trilogy with some fantastic key scene renditions and like many of the 1980 posters a dominant Darth Vader and the iconic Imperial Walkers. This eye-catching and desirable design was given a limited edition lenticular makeover in 2020 by Bottleneck Gallery and sold in 1 mm and 4mm editions. The poster offered here is printed on 1mm PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) and mounted on high-density paper backing, numbered #200/300. Lenticular printing is a technology in which lenticular lenses (a technology used for 3D displays) are used to produce printed images with an illusion of depth or the ability to change or move as the image is viewed from different angles. Truly scarce and highly sought after, Ferguson’s imagery is already firmly established as a fans favourite, and this impressive item represents a fine addition for any collector of original movie posters or Star Wars fan memorabilia.

For the third chapter of the original Star Wars trilogy Lucasfilm successfully chose a number of internationally acclaimed artists to present a varied series of designs for the Worldwide advertising campaign. Much like Darth Vader dominated the advance poster campaign for “Episode V” (the Dark) it is Tim Reamer’s single Lightsaber imagery that heralds the the third and final instalment (the Light) of the original trilogy. The poster here is the scarce large format (one-sheet size posters are printed in incredibly low numbers when compared to the more common B2s) Japanese B1 one-sheet by Tim Reamer which features Luke’s lightsaber pointing high to the stars. Presented here in fantastic unrestored folded (as issued) condition this beautiful example looks magnificent; deep unfaded vibrant colours where you can believe the lightsaber really is pulsing with power. An impressive piece of original Star Wars cinematic movie memorabilia from what was (until recently) the defining chapter in the Star Wars original trilogy. From a personal viewpoint I feel the Japanese typography perfectly suits the design and only adds to the overall effect.

Trivia: Leia strangling Jabba was an homage to the death of Luca Brasi in The Godfather (1972). George Lucas worked as an assistant editor on that movie.

The third instalment of George Lucas’ original Star Wars trilogy “Return of the Jedi” contains a number of incredible set pieces right from the opening scene in Bobba Fett’s lair, Han’s rescue by Luke, the reveal of a larger more deadly Death Star, the Ewoks and their home planet – the Forest Moon of Endor and of course the return of one of the greatest villains ever created – DARTH VADER. And it’s the Sith Lord who features on this full-length (72 inches high), life size fully licensed commercial poster released as part of the movie’s original marketing campaign in 1983. It truly is spectacular. Presented here in original rolled (as issued) condition this fantastic example has deep unfaded vibrant colour tones and displays to excellent effect. Darth Vader is already firmly established as a fans favourite, and this impressive example represents a fine addition for any collector of movie posters or Star Wars fan memorabilia.
