“Out of the darkness…comes the Knight.”
There were some outstanding posters produced for Christopher Nolan’s 2008 “Batman Begins” sequel “The Dark Knight” but this advance “Coming Soon” teaser takes the plaudits…a truly stunning looking film poster designed by Crew Creative Advertising. This International one sheet was printed in USA for use in United Kingdom and Europe and depicts the Batman silhouetted against a striking city scape and is the rarest of any paper for the movie. The photograph really doesn’t do this poster justice. Originally rolled (as issued) this beautiful unrestored example displays and presents to magnificent effect and represents a hugely collectable item of modern original movie memorabilia from a truly outstanding film franchise and an icon of modern pop culture…“The night is darkest before the dawn.”
Trivia: In Sir Michael Caine‘s opinion, Heath Ledger beat the odds and topped Jack Nicholson‘s Joker from Batman (1989): “Jack was like a clown figure, benign but wicked, maybe a killer old uncle. He could be funny and make you laugh. Heath’s gone in a completely different direction to Jack, he’s like a really scary psychopath. He’s a lovely guy and his Joker is going to be a hell of a revelation in this picture.” Caine bases this belief on a scene where The Joker pays a visit to Bruce Wayne’s penthouse. He’d never met Ledger before, so when Ledger arrived and performed, he gave Caine such a fright, he forgot his lines.

Where the previous ‘teaser’ posters had highlighted ‘The Joker’ this style firmly pushes a heroic Batman with the hint of his troubles to come illustrated by a flaming bat logo. The gritty dark colours are perfectly rendered allowing the burning bat logo to draw the eye. Originally rolled (as issued) this stunning country of origin, US one-sheet poster presents and displays to excellent effect and represents a truly desirable piece of original Batman movie memorabilia from a trilogy that has become one of the most collectable and popular modern movie franchises.

In the comics Bane famously broke Batman’s back – Does the shattered Bat cowl tease that this time he goes one further ? Dark and stylish. Posters for Christopher Nolan’s Batman franchise have always been of the highest quality and when independent publishers Mondo asked acclaimed Batman comic book artist Jock to design something special he didn’t disappoint. Jock’s imagery is stunning as a giant image of The Dark Knight composed of bats is seen looming over Gotham City. The minimal use of colour with just black, white and light grey being used only enhances the overall impact and makes for a nice change with most Batman imagery opting for the more typical dark coloured inks and a shadowy style. Of particular note and although a small detail (and easily overlooked) is the lettering, credits and logos as these are all hand drawn by Jock in a style that mimics the original typography. This Limited Edition, Hand Numbered (#16/375) edition for “The Dark Knight Rises” was only ever made available through Mondo at the 2012 San Diego Comic Con. Original rolled it is presented in excellent original condition. Jock, is arguably one of the most popular and talented comic book and poster artists, whose work sees some incredible aftermarket prices and is also some of the best and most innovative to be offered for sale.

Original 2012 International ‘Coming Soon’ one sheet cinema poster for Christopher Nolan’s epic conclusion to his acclaimed Batman trilogy, “The Dark Knight Rises”, starring Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Morgan Freeman.
Featuring the spectacular “A Fire Will Rise” design, with Batman standing amid the fiery destruction of Gotham City, the artwork was created by advertising agencies Ignition and LA and remains one of the most dramatic poster designs produced for the film.

“Are You Watching Closely?”
Scarce, original one-sheet for Christopher Nolan’s 2006 real magic drama “The Prestige”. With a distinctive design by Crew Creative Advertising the two main characters Alfred Borden (Christian Bale) and Robert Angier (Hugh Jackman) are featured offset against a spiral style background by Akisyoshi Kitaoka. It’s an incredible optical illusion design that actually appears to move – it really is quite striking. Originally rolled (as issued) this displays superbly and represents an exceptional piece of collectable original film memorabilia. Perhaps over-looked by Nolan’s other masterpieces he has made many great films – and this one is most definitely one of them!
Trivia:The word “prestige” originally meant a trick, from the Latin “praestigium”, meaning “illusion”.
