John Landis’ “An American Werewolf in London” is one of the best werewolf movies ever made, full of dark humour and gory thrills. As most people know, this has one of the best human/werewolf transformation scenes in cinematic history. Unlike modern monster/horror movies of today, this film has no CGI or computer-aided special effects; what you see on the screen is a physical production made piece for which Rick Baker won the Oscar. This 2021 alternative movie poster by the American graphic artist Todd Alcott shows a very understated and restrained design for a horror poster as David (David Naughton), Jack (Griffin Dunne), Nurse Alex Price (Jenny Agutter) plus a number of London landmarks are represented as characters on what appears to be a beaten up paperback book cover. Presented in excellent condition this rolled (as issued) example displays superbly and has been printed too look distressed. Alcott’s impressive piece of poster artwork represents a great twist on traditional horror movie memorabilia and is a great example in the rapidly expanding area of alternative movie posters. “I vote we go back to the Slaughtered Lamb”
Trivia: Rick Baker claimed to have been disappointed by the amount of time spent shooting the face changing shot for the transformation after having spent months working on the mechanism. John Landis only required one take lasting about seven seconds. Baker felt he had wasted his time until seeing the film with an audience that applauded during that one seven second shot.

Trivia: John Landis wrote the screenplay for this film following an incident while shooting Kelly’s Heroes (1970) (while he was a go-fer) in the countryside of Yugoslavia. While driving along a country road with a colleague, Landis encountered a gypsy funeral. The body was being buried in a massively deep grave, feet first, while wrapped in garlic so he would not rise from the dead.

Humphreys has cleverly included all the main characters, David (Naughton) becoming the werewolf and the suitably named ‘Slaughtered Lamb’. Presented in excellent condition this rolled (as issued) example displays superbly and is an impressive piece of horror poster artwork and is a hugely desirable alternative movie poster.

“You don’t talk to Colonel Kurtz…You listen to him.”
A personal favourite and quite simply a stunning film poster for Francis Ford Coppola’s multi award winning Vietnam war epic “Apocalypse Now”. There is no doubting the influence and impact of Coppola’s 1979 masterpiece with any paper hugely desirable and the German A1 film poster offered here is no exception. This design was created by Bob Peak featuring an outstanding close up image of a shaven headed Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brando) offset against a dark black background…truly memorable imagery for Coppola’s voyage into the ‘Heart of Darkness’. Peak’s campaign artwork for Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now is widely regarded as one of the great and most iconic poster designs, winning an Award of Excellence from The Society of Illustrators in 1980. So it was no surprise that in 2021 when Mondo issued a remastered screenprint licensed by Zoetrope Productions with production and colour separations handled by Jason Edmiston, Jon Smith, Shane Mahn and Peak’s son Alex, it sold out immediately. From a hand-numbered edition of 425, this is #335. Originally rolled (as issued) with an amazing colour palette this outstanding example presents and displays to excellent effect and represents a beautiful alternative movie poster from one of the finest film’s ever made…“Napalm, son. Trivia: When shooting Black Swan, Natalie Portman sustained many injuries, which caused delays to the production. The most common injury was her left toe, which had to be restrapped while the cast and crew waited. This kind of delay was so frequent it was called a “Natalie Portman’s Left Toe Delay” which was later shortened to…Portmantoe.

“Higher ! Further ! Faster !”
An absolutely stunning piece of alternative movie poster art by Matt Taylor. This is a sold out screen print for the Marvel Studios release “Captain Marvel” released by Mondo in 2019. The character depicted is the cosmically powered super-heroine Carol Danvers sporting her red, white, and blue Earth uniform. This is a hand numbered regular edition of 1725 with this being #1008. Originally flat & unfolded (as issued) this superb example displays to impressive effect (honestly the photo does not do this justice…needs to be seen), perfectly suited to this portrait format. Captain Marvel AKA Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) looks truly cosmic and takes centre stage in a full on ‘power’ pose. Very cool and very collectable this exceptional looking piece represents a fantastic item of ‘modern’ super-hero movie memorabilia.
Trivia: This was the twenty-first film to be released by Marvel Studios for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the first to have a female lead being released at cinemas on International Women’s Day.

Sam Raimi’s “The Evil Dead” is one of the best horror comedy movies ever made, full of dark humour and gory thrills. As most people know, this is one of the greatest performing films, dollar for dollar in cinematic history. One of the most popular film titles for alternative movie posters artists, this 2016 hand-numbered (#134/220) print by Francesco Francavilla is a standout piece and a proper horror poster as a chainsaw wielding Ash (Bruce Campbell) and the demonically possessed Cheryl (Ellen Sandweiss) dominate the blood red coloured imagery. Presented in excellent condition this rolled (as issued) example displays superbly that represents an impressive piece of horror artwork and is a hugely desirable alternative movie poster. “I know now that my wife has become host to a Kandarian demon. Trivia: The large demonic head Ash battles in the climax of the film, which the crew nicknamed the “rotten applehead”, was too large and cumbersome for the crew to carry back to California, so it was left in North Carolina and soon disappeared. Its whereabouts were unknown for a number of years until it was found in a Halloween haunted house attraction just outside the original shooting location of Wadesboro, North Carolina.
