Sam Raimi’s “The Evil Dead” is one of the best horror comedy movies ever made, full of dark humour and gory thrills. As most people know, this is one of the greatest performing films, dollar for dollar in cinematic history. One of the most popular film titles for alternative movie posters artists, this 2016 hand-numbered (#134/220) print by Francesco Francavilla is a standout piece and a proper horror poster as a chainsaw wielding Ash (Bruce Campbell) and the demonically possessed Cheryl (Ellen Sandweiss) dominate the blood red coloured imagery. Trivia: Over his years as a director, Raimi’s 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88 (originally bought by Raimi’s father for the family when Sam was 14) has “played” Ash’s car in the Evil Dead movies, Uncle Ben and Aunt May’s car in the Spider-Man movies, Annie’s car in The Gift (2000), and Mrs. Ganoush’s car in Drag Me to Hell (2009), and has made cameos in nearly all of his other movies.

Designed by The Seiniger Advertising Agency with finished artwork by Roger Kastel the poster has attained cult status. Once you’ve seen the film (& who hasn’t) you see the poster and you just can’t get John Williams’ distinctive soundtrack out of your head. This original UK quad for Steven Spielberg’s 1975 masterpiece “Jaws” is for the September 9th 2022 re-release for IMAX cinema screens and a Real D 3D version. Although retaining the original artwork it has been slightly altered to denote this is, with a shark-bite evident on the ‘A’ of IMAX. Originally rolled (as issued) this displays to excellent effect. Perfect, deep rich colours this is a truly outstanding and extremely rare original film poster that is only available for this very limited cinematic release with the UK quad being the only landcscape format printed. “Jaws” is probably the most important film of ‘modern’ cinema, launching a movie trend that is now commonly referred to as the ‘Summer Blockbuster’. It also happens to have some of the most incredible and memorable series of scenes of any movie. These scenes are largely mapped out beforehand using illustrated storyboards. For “Jaws” the storyboards were created by the multi award winner production designer – Joe Alves. The storyboard offered here is an exact replica of the one used in production featuring a scene from the climax of the film as the great white launches itself at the stern of the boat. Printed on off-white colour cardstock paper, Alves himself has added a coloured, hand-drawn shark illustration, hand-lettered “JAWS” and has personally-signed it with shark Remarque added to his signature. Each of these are unique with none of Alves’ personal annotations and illustrations the same. Originally rolled, flat and unfolded (as issued) this example displays to exceptional effect. Of all the different variations for a “Jaws” poster, this alternative movie poster based (only slightly tweaked) on his original 1976 design is by leading Thai artist Banhan Thaitanaboon, is considered one of the best. Roger Kastel’s original design of the huge Great White Shark about to break the waterline and devour the naked female swimmer has been adapted. The top half of the poster includes incredible lifelike illustrations of the key actor’s Quint (Robert Shaw), Chief Brody (Roy Scheider) and Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss), with some action thrown for good measure as the shark attacks Hooper in the underwater cage. Film and alternative movie posters by Thai artists are starting to gain a strong following with collectors, and with artists like Ise Ananphada, Banhan, Kwow and Tongdee Panumas, it’s easy to see why. Printed by Baker Press, this very limited release of only 40, has been hand-signed in gold pen with a full signature by the artist – Banhan Thaitanaboon. Totally unrestored this beautiful rolled, unfolded (as issued) example displays to exceptional effect, and with 11 coloured inks used, as expected the colours pop from the paper. What is Giclee ?
Derived from the French term gicler – meaning ‘to squirt or spray’, the term describes a printing process whereby microscopic dots of pigment-based ink are sprayed onto archival-quality paper to ensure the fidelity of a limited edition print to an original artwork.
The richness, accuracy and depth of colour is thanks to the method’s potential to achieve a huge colour gamut (the spectrum of colours distinguishable by the human eye). Unlike the four tones used in lithography, giclées often use five: light cyan, cyan, light magenta, yellow and black.
Fantastic for reproductions which require maximum detail, giclées are most commonly found on watercolour paper or canvas, but can also be created on glass. Different types of paper will produce different effects. Matte paper works well behind glass due its lack of reflectivity, whilst the shine of a glossy finish can give an artwork a brighter appearance.

Paul Shipper has produced an incredible piece of movie related artwork, the front cover art for Neca Toys “Ultimate MacReady” action figure released in 2021 for John Carpenter’s “The Thing”. With flamethrower in hand, Kurt Russell stands ready and is surrounded by a bright white light, paying homage to Drew Struzan’s iconic US one-sheet artwork. The background explores the whole mid to light blue colour palette that exudes the feeling of cold. This signed, titled and hand-annotated Artist Proof print by Paul Shipper was never available commercially and comes directly from the artist’s personal archive. The quality of the printing is truly outstanding and almost appears to be original painted artwork. It represents a very collectable & highly desirable film related poster from a movie rightly regarded as a classic of the genre.

An outstanding alternative movie poster by the maestro of British horror art, Graham Humphreys for John Carpenter’s horror, sci-fi classic “The Thing”. This superb limited edition example is incredibly rare in any edition and to offer an Artist Proof example (this is hand-numbered #10/10) is indeed a bonus. Antarctic Alien terror never looked better than this, thanks to Humphreys’ stunning imagery, MacReady (Kurt Russell) and the Thing illustrations are perfectly realised, with beautiful colour tones. Released in 2023 as an exclusive Private Commission, this immediately sold out when launched. Originally rolled, flat-unfolded (as issued) the example offered displays to exceptional effect and represents a truly outstanding and extremely desirable item of collectable movie memorabilia with a ‘modern’ twist…“Did you notice anything strange about the dog that arrived yesterday? Anything at all?”
Trivia: Unused music composed for this film was later used by Ennio Morricone in Quentin Tarantino‘s The Hateful Eight (2015). Ironically, Morricone’s Thing score was nominated for a Razzie for worst score, while his score for Hateful Eight won him an Oscar.

An incredibly rare find, a 2023 Park Circus UK quad film poster for Michael Powell’s disturbing 1960 voyeuristic thriller “Peeping Tom”. One of the most distinctive and best redesigned of any posters from the genre and rightly regarded as a British classic and highly sought after by collectors. “Peeping Tom” was not a great commercial success at the time of its release, and was largely over shadowed by Hitchcock’s “Psycho” and often treated as a film ‘way ahead of its time’ with filmgoers reluctant to see it due to Powell’s controversial content. The originally rolled (as issued), unrestored example offered here has minimal handling and displays & presents to excellent effect with beautiful colour tones and dramatic imagery. Incredibly scarce, as it received a very limited release and was only shown in a handful of ‘Park Circus’ affiliated cinemas. A must have title for the serious collector or fan it represents a fantastic item of good looking collectible movie memorabilia.
Trivia: The critical mauling and public outcry about the film resulted in it being pulled from British cinemas after just five days.
