“Licorice Pizza” is a Paul Thomas Anderson nostalgic romcom of sorts about a teenager and the much older woman he wants to have a romance with in 1970s California filmed around characters and situations from the entertainment industry of the day, eccentric, off-beat and very period appropriate. “Licorice Pizza” was a cult success on its release with Anderson’s loyal fanbase hailing another solid cinematic offering. Only having a very limited run and showing in a small number of (largely ‘art-house’ or ‘independent’) cinemas any paper from the film is scarce and in very short supply, making this originally rolled (as issued) Kat Reeder designed one-sheet from 2021 a really great find. It displays to excellent effect and represents an extremely hard yo find, modern original collectable movie memorabilia from a truly talented writer/director.
Trivia: The term “Licorice Pizza” is slang for a vinyl record, particularly albums which were known as LPs for Long Play, hence Licorice Pizza. Also, the vinyl record is black, which is the color of licorice, and the shape is flat and round, like a pizza.

“A beautiful coastline… A rich oil man wants to develop it. A poor beach bum wants to live on it. An entire town wants to profit by it. And a real-live mermaid wants to save it… Only one of them will get their way.“
A British UK quad film poster for Bill Forsyth’s 1983 feel good comedy “Local Hero” starring Burt Lancaster as the oil billionaire Felix Hopper and Peter Riegert as Mac, the executive sent in to seal the deal. And it’s both leads who feature on this beautiful one-sheet. The artwork is really quite stunning and sadly unattributed. This romantic comedy has gained a certain cult following over the years and has withstood the test of time very well. Genuinely heart warming and as a poster a rare find. Originally rolled (as issued) this unrestored example displays and presents to excellent effect. Hugely popular with a large and loving fan-base the original film poster offered here represents a a very collectable piece of British (well Scottish) movie memorabilia.
Trivia: First film score composed by Mark Knopfler. Knopfler provided not only the main score, mostly consisting of classical guitar (which would become his cinematic trademark for The Princess Bride (1987)), but filled the fast-fingered country guitar licks during the KNOX radio station announcement while Mac is driving in the film’s opening. The film’s soundtrack scored by former Dire Straits member, Mark Knopfler, sold better than the movie itself helped launch Knopfler’s career as a film composer.

“The Greek gods created a woman – Pandora. She was beautiful and charming and versed in the art of flattery. But the gods also gave her a box containing all the evils of the world. The heedless woman opened the box, and all evil was loosed upon us.”
One of the great silent films, Georg Wilhelm Pabst’s “Pandora’s Box” is renowned for its sensational storyline, sparkling Weimar-period setting and the legendary, lead performance from its iconic star Louise Brooks who is featured prominently on the poster imagery. As a general rule BFI re-release posters are incredibly scarce due to limited print runs and distribution, being shown in literally a handful of independent and ‘art-house’ cinemas with the updated imagery often superior to many of the original release designs. The rolled (as issued) UK quad offered here is from the 2020 digital restoration BFI release and displays to excellent effect with beautiful imagery and design; lovely bright bold colours. A fantastic looking item and a fine piece of cinema memorabilia for a true classic of the silent era.
Trivia: Despite being replaced by Louise Brooks at the last minute for the role of Lulu in Pandora’s Box (1929), Marlene Dietrich managed to snag another coveted role. Her removal from “Pandora’s Box” freed her up to play one of her most iconic roles, Lola Lola in Josef von Sternberg‘s The Blue Angel (1930).
