A beautiful British Quad for Terrence Malick’s cinematic debut “Badlands” starring Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek as the young couple on a killing spree across the ‘badlands of Montana’. This 2008 BFI (British Film Institute) re-release offering sees the original 1973 British artwork adapted to a full bleed image with no white border. It really works, resulting in a particularly powerful silhouette imagery. Presented unrestored, in originally rolled (as issued) condition, this scarce British poster rarely comes to market and represents a fine piece of cinematic memorabilia for a cult classic movie.
Trivia: The film’s plot and lead characters are based on Charles Starkweather and Caril Fugate. In 1958, they embarked on a murder spree that horrified the country.

Without doubt the most controversial film of its day, and that’s saying something when you consider it was released alongside “The Exorcist” and “Last Tango in Paris”. Often the subject matter for many up and coming artists looking to make a name for themselves in the up and coming Alternative Movie Poster market, this offering by Greg Ruth really is a cut above the rest. This 2019 release for Stanley Kubrick’s ultra-violent masterpiece “Clockwork Orange” is quite simply a stunning piece of artwork, with a strictly limited print run of only 150 this is numbered #11. This orange (naturally) coloured variant edition is a less is more style featuring Malcolm McDowell character Alex with the title cleverly incorporated into his signature bowler hat. The film still remains Kubrick’s most controversial work; quite a feat when one considers the range of topics the filmmaker explored across his remarkable career. This superb unrestored example is presented rolled (as issued) and displays to excellent effect. A superb addition to any collection and an incredibly scarce piece of modern film art and cultural memorabilia.
Trivia: The film was unavailable for public viewing in the UK from 1973 until 2000, the year after Stanley Kubrick‘s death. British video stores were so inundated with requests for the movie that some took to putting up signs that read: ‘No, we do not have A Clockwork Orange (1971).’

Showing a close up of the Director-Producer the snipe on the reverse carries the correct reference number (SKB-130) and the following – STANLEY KUBRICK, producer-director of “A Clockwork Orange”, a Warner Bros. release. Based on the novel by Anthony Burgess, the film was adapted to the screen by Kubrick.” It still remains his most controversial work; quite a feat when one considers the range of topics the filmmaker explored across his remarkable career. This superb example is presented flat/unfolded (as issued) and displays to excellent effect with only very minimal handling wear. A superb addition to any collection (for display or investment) and an incredibly scarce piece of film and cultural memorabilia.

What is Giclee ?
Derived from the French term gicler – meaning ‘to squirt or spray’, the term describes a printing process whereby microscopic dots of pigment-based ink are sprayed onto archival-quality paper to ensure the fidelity of a limited edition print to an original artwork.
The richness, accuracy and depth of colour is thanks to the method’s potential to achieve a huge colour gamut (the spectrum of colours distinguishable by the human eye). Unlike the four tones used in lithography, giclées often use five: light cyan, cyan, light magenta, yellow and black.
Fantastic for reproductions which require maximum detail, giclées are most commonly found on watercolour paper or canvas, but can also be created on glass. Different types of paper will produce different effects. Matte paper works well behind glass due its lack of reflectivity, whilst the shine of a glossy finish can give an artwork a brighter appearance.

It is part of the kitchen sink realism movement that developed in Britain in the late 50s and early 60s. This movement focussed on those that were disillusioned with modern society, and on the domestic lives of working-class Britain. When re-released by the BFI in 1999 for the 30th Anniversary, graphic design agency The Farm was commissioned to create a new poster, and it’s fair to say it what he has produced surpasses the original. Exclusive to this British release it’s a stunning imagery sums up the feeling of isolation. The borrowed shorts typify the “done unto” theme for the young lad while attempting to add a touch of welcome understated humour to the poster – made more poignant by the fact that for David Bradley’s role in life humour was usually at his own expense or not at all. An incredibly scarce example of modern poster design, perfectly suited to the landscape format of the UK quad. Originally rolled (as issued) this superb example presents extremely well and represents a beautiful example of cinematic movie memorabilia from a film that remains a powerful study of school, family, strife and dreams ever made.

Directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Ken Loach, “KES” is based on the 1968 novel “A Kestrel for a Knave”, written by Barry Hines. It is part of the kitchen sink realism movement that developed in Britain in the late 50s and early 60s. This movement focused on those that were disillusioned with modern society, and on the domestic lives of working-class Britain. When re-released in the 1970s the front of house lobby cards – full colour in the 1969 release were re-issued with a light blue sepia tone, which in my opinion is much better looking , giving a particularly striking effect that also makes David Dai Bradley’s signature (signed in black sharpie pen) really stand out. Bradley has signed with a very nice signature and has also added his character name – Billy. An outstanding card from the set as it features Billy (Dai Bradley) with his kestrel, KES. Originally flat and unfolded (as issued) this superb example presents extremely well and represents a beautiful example of cinematic movie memorabilia from a film that remains a powerful study of school, family, strife and dreams ever made.

“The Greek gods created a woman – Pandora. She was beautiful and charming and versed in the art of flattery. But the gods also gave her a box containing all the evils of the world. The heedless woman opened the box, and all evil was loosed upon us.”
One of the great silent films, Georg Wilhelm Pabst’s “Pandora’s Box” is renowned for its sensational storyline, sparkling Weimar-period setting and the legendary, lead performance from its iconic star Louise Brooks who is featured prominently on the poster imagery. As a general rule BFI re-release posters are incredibly scarce due to limited print runs and distribution, being shown in literally a handful of independent and ‘art-house’ cinemas with the updated imagery often superior to many of the original release designs. The rolled (as issued) UK quad offered here is from the 2020 digital restoration BFI release and displays to excellent effect with beautiful imagery and design; lovely bright bold colours. A fantastic looking item and a fine piece of cinema memorabilia for a true classic of the silent era.
Trivia: Despite being replaced by Louise Brooks at the last minute for the role of Lulu in Pandora’s Box (1929), Marlene Dietrich managed to snag another coveted role. Her removal from “Pandora’s Box” freed her up to play one of her most iconic roles, Lola Lola in Josef von Sternberg‘s The Blue Angel (1930).
