John Landis’ “An American Werewolf in London” is one of the best werewolf movies ever made, full of dark humour and gory thrills. As most people know, this has one of the best human/werewolf transformation scenes in cinematic history. Unlike modern monster/horror movies of today, this film has no CGI or computer-aided special effects; what you see on the screen is a physical production made piece for which Rick Baker won the Oscar. This 2021 alternative movie poster by the American graphic artist Todd Alcott shows a very understated and restrained design for a horror poster as David (David Naughton), Jack (Griffin Dunne), Nurse Alex Price (Jenny Agutter) plus a number of London landmarks are represented as characters on what appears to be a beaten up paperback book cover. Presented in excellent condition this rolled (as issued) example displays superbly and has been printed too look distressed. Alcott’s impressive piece of poster artwork represents a great twist on traditional horror movie memorabilia and is a great example in the rapidly expanding area of alternative movie posters. “I vote we go back to the Slaughtered Lamb”
Trivia: Rick Baker claimed to have been disappointed by the amount of time spent shooting the face changing shot for the transformation after having spent months working on the mechanism. John Landis only required one take lasting about seven seconds. Baker felt he had wasted his time until seeing the film with an audience that applauded during that one seven second shot.

This signed Artist Proof (AP) alternative movie poster by Graham Humphreys is a proper horror poster. Humphreys has cleverly included all the main characters, David (Naughton) becoming the werewolf and the suitably named ‘Slaughtered Lamb’. Presented in excellent condition this rolled (as issued) example displays superbly and is an impressive piece of horror poster artwork and is a hugely desirable alternative movie poster.

A personal favourite and quite simply a stunning film poster for Francis Ford Coppola’s multi award winning Vietnam war epic “Apocalypse Now”. There is no doubting the influence and impact of Coppola’s 1979 masterpiece with any paper hugely desirable and the German A1 film poster offered here is no exception. This design was created by Bob Peak featuring an outstanding close up image of a shaven headed Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brando) offset against a dark black background…truly memorable imagery for Coppola’s voyage into the ‘Heart of Darkness’. Peak’s campaign artwork for Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now is widely regarded as one of the great and most iconic poster designs, winning an Award of Excellence from The Society of Illustrators in 1980. So it was no surprise that in 2021 when Mondo issued a remastered screenprint licensed by Zoetrope Productions with production and colour separations handled by Jason Edmiston, Jon Smith, Shane Mahn and Peak’s son Alex, it sold out immediately. From a hand-numbered edition of 425, this is #335. Originally rolled (as issued) with an amazing colour palette this outstanding example presents and displays to excellent effect and represents a beautiful alternative movie poster from one of the finest film’s ever made…“Napalm, son. Trivia: John Milius explained how he had come up with the title “Apocalypse Now”. Apparently, this was derived from a very popular tattoo among the hippie community of a peace sign that said “Nirvana Now”. Milius, by adding just a couple of extra lines, edited the peace symbol to make it look like a circle with a B52 bomber in the middle, and changed the slogan to “Apocalypse Now”.

A personal favourite and quite simply a stunning alternative movie poster for Francis Ford Coppola’s multi award winning Vietnam war epic “Apocalypse Now” by Jock. Like something out of a widescreen images handbook, the grandiose and all-consuming art within this limited edition giclee art print for Apocalypse Now is as visually masterful as the film it depicts. Truly an impressive piece; the range of red colour tones for the sky is incredible (the photo does not do it justice). This print is both Hand-Signed and Hand-Numbered #110/150 in the bottom right corner in pencil. Originally rolled (as issued) with an amazing colour palette this outstanding example presents and displays to excellent effect and represents a beautiful alternative movie poster from one of the best artist’s currently working and the finest film’s ever made. What is Giclee ?
Derived from the French term gicler – meaning ‘to squirt or spray’, the term describes a printing process whereby microscopic dots of pigment-based ink are sprayed onto archival-quality paper to ensure the fidelity of a limited edition print to an original artwork.
The richness, accuracy and depth of colour is thanks to the method’s potential to achieve a huge colour gamut (the spectrum of colours distinguishable by the human eye). Unlike the four tones used in lithography, giclées often use five: light cyan, cyan, light magenta, yellow and black.
Fantastic for reproductions which require maximum detail, giclées are most commonly found on watercolour paper or canvas, but can also be created on glass. Different types of paper will produce different effects. Matte paper works well behind glass due its lack of reflectivity, whilst the shine of a glossy finish can give an artwork a brighter appearance.

Artist Matthew Peak is no stranger to horror icons as it was his Freddy Krueger artwork that adorned the first Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) US One-Sheet and has now has created an award-winning “Frankenstein Monster” print for the 2018 exhibition Mondo Presents “Universal Studio Monsters”. This limited-edition example has been hand-numbered #6 from a print run of 325. In 2018, the leading and most respected alternative movie poster forum expressobeans.com made this print their “Cinema Poster of the Year”. Incredibly rare and highly collectible, an excellent example of modern cinematic movie memorabilia.
Trivia: Boris Karloff‘s Monster in this film does not physically resemble the character in Mary Shelley‘s novel. It was make-up artist Jack P. Pierce who came up with innovations such as the Monster’s flat head, the bolts through the neck, the droopy eyelids, and the poorly-fitted suit. Any future Frankenstein film that features any of these physical abnormalities is taking its inspiration from Pierce’s make-up work.

“When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives”. An early alternative lithograph for the phenomenally succesful HBO TV series “Game of Thrones”. Titled “The Harbinger”, this 2013 ‘Mondo’ screenprint features artwork by Ken Taylor and depicts the ‘three-eyed crow’, so significant in Bran Stark’s dreams. The landscape format perfectly suits the subject matter with the bright blood red sky of this ‘regular’ edition making it the best version to own. Limited to a print run of 440 this is hand-numbered #2. Originally rolled (as issued) it presents and displays to excellent effect and represents an outstanding piece of alternative movie memorabilia from one of the biggest TV shows in recent memory.
Trivia: Game of Thrones is the first television series in history to be screened in IMAX theaters.

“Let the festivities begin”
Titled “The May Queen” this impressive giclee art print inspired by Ari Aster’s cult classic horror film “MidSommar” features the beautiful and intricate artwork of Ukrainian artist Ann Bembi, who’s photo-realistic style perfectly suits the content. With shades of “Wicker Man” the bright colours and sea of flowers can’t hide the anguish and fear of lead actress Florence Pugh (Dani). A lovely alternative movie poster for this slow-burn pagan horror that has a rapidly growing cult following. Available for a strictly limited one-hour time window on April 5th 2022 when 580 were ordered, with the poster here being hand-numbered #222. Originally rolled (as issued) it presents and displays to excellent effect and represents an outstanding piece of horror genre movie memorabilia.
Trivia: The practice of ättestupa is effectively a myth. As depicted in the movie, the elderly were expected to sacrifice for the good of the village, maintaining efficiency.

Jonathan Demme’s “The Silence of the Lambs” is one of the best horror thriller movies ever made; excellent Award winning performances, full of dark humour and gory thrills. This 2020 alternative movie poster by the American graphic artist Todd Alcott is a truly outstanding piece as he re-imagines and pays homage to the classic 1962 one-sheet for another horror thriller “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane”. It really is a clever and visually stunning piece of artwork that appears as a beaten up old poster. Presented in excellent condition this rolled (as issued) example displays superbly and has been printed to look aged and distressed. Alcott’s artwork represents a great twist on traditional horror movie memorabilia and is a great example in the rapidly expanding area of alternative movie posters being one of the best looking alternative movie posters I have seen.
Trivia: When Sir Anthony Hopkins‘s agent called him in London, to tell him that he was sending him a script called “The Silence of the Lambs,” Hopkins immediately thought he might be going up for a children’s movie.
