  The spectacular scale of Ken Adam’s production design dominates this ultra-rare original US Subway poster for “The Spy Who Loved Me”. Featuring the cavernous submarine bay inside Stromberg’s supertanker, the composition captures the film’s explosive action amid towering steelwork, elevated walkways and fire reflected across the water. A bright yellow title panel and inset photographs of Roger Moore and Barbara Bach complete a design that conveys the spectacle of Bond on an ambitious scale.

  One of the film’s most remarkable achievements, the submarine bay set was created within the purpose-built 007 Stage at Pinewood Studios. Its vast interior provided the setting for the battle aboard the Liparus, as Bond and the captured submariners fight to thwart Stromberg’s plans. Directed by Lewis Gilbert, the film combines these elaborate surroundings with Moore’s assured performance as 007, opposite Barbara Bach as Soviet agent XXX, Anya Amasova and Curt Jurgens as Karl Stromberg.

  Measuring 45 x 60 inches, this scarce US Subway style includes New York-area theatre listings and the announcement “Starts Wednesday July 27th”, adding a tangible connection to its original release. Presented in original folded condition, it has the scale to make an impressive statement without overwhelming a room. A distinctive piece for collectors of James Bond, Ken Adam’s celebrated set designs and vintage cinema memorabilia.

  Trivia: $1 million of the $13.5 million budget was spent by production designer Sir Ken Adam on building the largest soundstage in the world: 336’x139’x44′. The set was used for the interior submarine bay shots of “Stromberg’s” supertanker. The tank had a capacity of 1.2 million gallons. In honour of this the stage was named the’ 007 Stage’.
