    Cape Fear

    £175.00

“There is nothing in the dark that isn’t there in the light. Except fear”

An original 1991 US/International one-sheet film poster for Martin Scorsese’s suspenseful horror, thriller “Cape Fear”. Designed by Tom Martin and John Alvin, this is an incredible looking poster – the menace in De Niro’s stare is truly unsettling. Offered rolled (as issued) it presents to excellent effect with amazing dark colour tones, enhanced with blue touches giving not just the effect of water but also a lightening strike (so integral to the film’s finale). The water effect is further highlighted by the wave effect in the lower half of the poster – this is part of the printing with the poster itself presenting perfectly flat. An impressive and desirable film poster that represents a fantastic piece of modern horror cinematic memorabilia appealing to movie poster collectors and fans of Scorsese and De Niro.

    Goodfellas

    £225.00

“As far back as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a gangster.” — Henry Hill, Brooklyn, N.Y. 1955.”

Martin Scorsese’s “Goodfellas” is an iconic motion picture and a giant of the crime genre that will stand the test of time for years and years to come. An absolutely beautiful complete set of all eight (8) US front of house lobby cards for one of the best gangster films ever made…Martin Scorsese’s “Goodfellas”. Featuring a series of eight fantastic full colour images with our highlight card – Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and RayLiotta from the famous card playing scene where Tommy (Pesci) shoots Spider (Michael Imperioli). Originally flat and unfolded (as issued) all eight (8) appear unused and present to excellent effect. Hugely desirable and a must have title for the serious poster collector or Goodfellas fan it represents a premium piece of quality collectable movie memorabilia.

Trivia: The “How am I funny?” scene is based on something that actually happened to Joe Pesci. While working in a restaurant, a young Pesci apparently told a mobster that he was funny, a compliment that was met with a less-than-enthusiastic response. Pesci relayed the anecdote to Martin Scorsese, who decided to include it in the film. Scorsese didn’t include the scene in the shooting script, so that Pesci and Ray Liotta‘s interactions would elicit genuinely surprised reactions from the supporting cast.

“As far back as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a gangster.” — Henry Hill, Brooklyn, N.Y. 1955.”

Martin Scorsese’s “Goodfellas” is an iconic motion picture and a giant of the gangster genre that will stand the test of time for years and years to come. Designed by Territory Studios advertising agency the movie poster imagery that accompanied the 2016 BFI release was equally as memorable. The imagery of the three stars (De Niro, Pesci & Liotta) accompanied by one of their key scenes makes for a stylish design with the red filter particularly effective. The BFI are renowned for producing excellent and ‘fresh’ poster designs for their limited run releases and this is considered one of the best. As with all BFI screenings they are very limited (sometimes only a single showing) with an incredibly small  print run. making the posters very hard to come by. This originally rolled (as issued) example displays & presents to fine effect. Hugely desirable and a must have title for the serious poster collector or Goodfellas fan it represents a premium piece of quality collectable movie memorabilia.

The movie poster imagery that accompanied the 1990 release featured the three main stars – De Niro, Pesci & Liotta. And it’s those actors who take centre stage on this 2022 alternative movie poster by Nick Runge. In addition to the main characters, Runge has incorporated several key scenes and supporting characters into the artwork including one of the most memorable scenes from the movie as they get set to bury Billy Batts in the forest. A truly eye-catching design this originally rolled (as issued) example displays & presents to excellent effect with beautiful colour tones with a red that pops from the paper. Being giclee the finish appears painted and it is absolutely stunning in hand, with the photo not doing it justice. Hugely desirable and a must have title for the serious poster collector or Goodfellas fan it represents a premium piece of quality collectable movie memorabilia.

    What is Giclee ?

Derived from the French term gicler – meaning ‘to squirt or spray’, the term describes a printing process whereby microscopic dots of pigment-based ink are sprayed onto archival-quality paper to ensure the fidelity of a limited edition print to an original artwork.

The richness, accuracy and depth of colour is thanks to the method’s potential to achieve a huge colour gamut (the spectrum of colours distinguishable by the human eye). Unlike the four tones used in lithography, giclées often use five: light cyan, cyan, light magenta, yellow and black.

Fantastic for reproductions which require maximum detail, giclées are most commonly found on watercolour paper or canvas, but can also be created on glass. Different types of paper will produce different effects. Matte paper works well behind glass due its lack of reflectivity, whilst the shine of a glossy finish can give an artwork a brighter appearance.

A real statement piece and talking point – An ultra rare (this is the only one I have ever seen or offered for sale), large format US bus shelter size wilding poster that was solely used for advance publicity, being pasted on walls around town before the movie played. This is a true US release poster – note the R Ratings box and not one of the readily available Thai one-sheets, that (whether officially or unofficially) adopted this imagery.

Once Upon A Time In America

    £350.00

“As boys, they said they would die for each other. As men, they did”

Truly one of the greatest gangster films ever made Sergio Leone’s Once Upon A Time In America. An epic, episodic, tale of the lives of a small group of New York City Jewish gangsters spanning over 40 years and thankfully it has a movie poster to match it. This original 1984 US one-sheet features beautiful atmospheric design with a fantastic image of the Brooklyn Bridge and sepia colours that are a perfect complement to Leone’s film. Originally folded (as issued) this rare example is presented in beautiful unrestored condition; it presents and displays to excellent effect and represents an impressive example of very collectable original movie memorabilia from a multi award winning film and one of cinema’s leading directors.

Trivia: Sergio Leone had refused the offer to direct The Godfather (1972), an opportunity he deeply regretted. This may have partly inspired him to try a gangster film. Leone has also notably used the flashback technique pioneered in The Godfather: Part II (1974).

  • Raging-Bull-Movie-Poster

    Raging Bull

    £60.00

“…Essential masterpiece; powerful De Niro; simply one of the best films of all time…”

This is certainly one of the most intense films Scorsese has directed, and one of the most important of his career. It is an iconic motion picture that will stand the test of time for years and years to come. The movie poster that accompanied the Czech release of Martin Scorsese’s Oscar winning Jake La Motta biopic “Raging Bull” was equally as striking. Czech artist Zdenek Ziegler has impressively adapted the close up image of La Motta (De Niro) from the US & British campaigns and added a ‘devilish’ tone to the design. The originally rolled (as issued), unrestored example offered here has minimal handling and displays & presents to excellent effect with deep unfaded colours. Very rare, as it received a very limited release in Czechoslovakia and was only shown in a handful of  ‘art-house’ cinemas. A must have title for the serious collector or fan it represents a fantastic item of good looking collectable movie memorabilia.

Trivia: The reasons why the film was made in black and white were mainly to differentiate it from Rocky (1976), as well as for period authenticity. Another reason was that Martin Scorsesedidn’t want to depict all that blood in a color picture. Also, in the book, Jake LaMotta says “Now, sometimes, at night, when I think back, I feel like I’m looking at an old black and white movie of myself. Why it should be black and white I don’t know, but it is.”

This is certainly one of the most intense films Scorsese has directed, and one of the most important of his career. It is an iconic motion picture that will stand the test of time for years and years to come. The movie poster that accompanied this limited run release was equally as striking for the British 14th April, 2023 Park Circus re-release of Martin Scorsese’s Oscar winning Jake La Motta biopic “Raging Bull” the beautifully photographed image of a blood red La Motta (De Niro) set against a purple and maroon (the colour of bruises) backdrop.
