“And now, ladies and gentlemen, before I tell you any more, I’m going to show you the greatest thing your eyes have ever beheld. He was a king and a god in the world he knew, but now he comes to civilization merely a captive – a show to gratify your curiosity. Ladies and gentlemen, look at Kong, the Eighth Wonder of the World.”
A spectacular alternative movie poster for the legendary 1933 RKO classic “King Kong”, featuring superb artwork by acclaimed British illustrator Kevin M. Wilson.
Wilson’s wonderfully atmospheric monochrome design captures the mystery, adventure and sheer scale of the original film, with Kong dominating the composition as he reaches through the enormous temple gates. The dramatic artwork is filled with imagery inspired by Skull Island and beautifully evokes the look and atmosphere of one of cinema’s most celebrated fantasy adventures.
Produced as a strictly limited edition of only 60 prints, this example has been hand numbered 33/60. The number 33 is particularly appropriate, corresponding with 1933, the year “King Kong” was originally released.
Measuring 24 x 36 inches, the poster is rolled (as issued) and presented in excellent condition. A striking and highly collectible interpretation of one of the most iconic films in cinema history.
Trivia: This is the only film to debut at the two largest theaters in New York City, the Roxy and Radio City Music Hall, simultaneously. The total seating capacity was about 10,000; it sold out every performance (10 per day) at both theaters.
