  “Scream as your nightmares come true”

  Confrontational and vividly coloured, this original Japanese B2 poster for “The Evil Dead” features the disturbing “Deadite” design, with a snarling possessed face dominating the lower half of the composition. Heavy chains, bold red Japanese lettering and smaller scenes from the film create a striking arrangement, with imagery unique to Japan. Issued for the film’s first Japanese release in 1985, this is the rarest of the Japanese poster designs printed for the film.

  Written and directed by Sam Raimi, “The Evil Dead”stars Bruce Campbell as Ash, one of five friends whose stay in an isolated woodland cabin unleashes a terrifying supernatural force. Its inventive camerawork, relentless atmosphere and gruesome practical effects helped establish it as a landmark of independent horror and launched one of the genre’s most enduring franchises.

  Measuring 20.25 x 28.5 inches, this rare Japanese B2 is presented rolled, as issued, in excellent condition, with strong, unfaded colours. A superb display piece for collectors of “The Evil Dead”, Sam Raimi and distinctive Japanese horror movie memorabilia.

  Trivia: Over his years as a director, Raimi’s 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88 (originally bought by Raimi’s father for the family when Sam was 14) has “played” Ash’s car in the Evil Dead movies, Uncle Ben and Aunt May’s car in the Spider-Man movies, Annie’s car in The Gift (2000), and Mrs. Ganoush’s car in Drag Me to Hell (2009), and has made cameos in nearly all of his other movies.
