  Blow Up

  “Sometimes, reality is the strangest fantasy of all.”

  Perhaps one of the most influential and talked about ‘art’ films of ‘Swinging 60’s London’, Michelangelo Antonioni’s controversial first English language film “Blow Up”. Extremely rare, complete set of all eight (8) front of house, country of origin British lobby cards from first year of release 1966. Two cards are standalone character pieces and feature Thomas (David Hemmings) and Jane (Vanessa Redgrave) with the remaining six cards exuding a real feeling of sexual tension. Presented here in original flat, unfolded (as issued to cinemas) condition this scarce set displays very well with bright vibrant colours. Paper for this title doesn’t come to market very often with these front of house lobby cards a superb example of 1960’s nostalgia and British cinema memorabilia.

  Trivia: The film contains a rare performance of The Yardbirds during the period when Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck were both in the band. Jeff Beck would leave a few months later.

  Clockwork Orange

  “Being the adventures of a young man whose principal interests are rape, ultra-violence and Beethoven.”

  Without doubt “A Clockwork Orange” was the most controversial film of its day, and that’s saying something when you consider it was released alongside “The Exorcist” and “Last Tango in Paris”. Malcolm McDowell’s signature role, and it’s his character Alex DeLarge who features on all eight cards in this complete set of US lobby cards from first year of release, 1972 as he is highlighted in key scenes and in stunning close-up. A rare find as a complete set, with most broken up and the cards sold individually. Totally original and unrestored, the cards are presented in high grade, flat, unfolded (as issued) condition that display and present to excellent effect. A genuinely scarce and hard to find example of cinema memorabilia. The film still remains Kubrick’s most controversial work; quite a feat when one considers the range of topics the filmmaker explored across his remarkable career and represent a superb addition to any collection.

  Trivia: The film was unavailable for public viewing in the UK from 1973 until 2000, the year after Stanley Kubrick‘s death. British video stores were so inundated with requests for the movie that some took to putting up signs that read: ‘No, we do not have A Clockwork Orange (1971).’

  Ghostbusters

  “Gozer the Gozerian, good evening. As a duly designated representative of the city, county, and state of New York, I order you to cease any and all supernatural activity and return forthwith to your place of origin or to the nearest convenient parallel dimension.”

  One of the best must hummable theme tunes and a truly apocalyptic finale, it is no surprising that “Ghostbusters” was the biggest film of 1984. A supernatural summer blockbuster with humour, thrills, spills and some of the best special effects money could buy at the time. Ivan Reitman’s masterpiece is a much loved genuine classic. Sometimes lobby card sets are slightly disappointing as they don’t really represent that many interesting scenes or characters from the movie, but that is the complete opposite here – this complete set of ALL eight US lobby cards is magnificent, featuring the Ghostbusters on six of the cards, a super-sexy, albeit possessed Sigourney Weaver and the iconic ECTO-1 ghost mobile. Originally flat and olded (as issued) these superb unrestored examples display to excellent effect with minimal age and handling wear and represent an impressive item of collectable film movie memorabilia from one the best movies to come out of the 1980’s.

  Trivia: Almost none of the scenes were filmed as scripted; most had at least one ad-lib. Most of Bill Murray‘s lines are ad-libs.

  Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence

  A complete set of all eight (8) US lobby cards presented in totally original unrestored condition. An absolutely fantastic collection of images from 1983, in what was to become a memorable screen role for David Bowie as Jack Celliers in Nagisa Ôshima’s “Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence”. The imagery chosen for the eight cards perfectly capture the whole feel of the movie with Bowie featured on six leaving Tom Conti, as the titular Mr. Lawrence and a prisoner of war riot to complete the set. Incredibly hard to source as a complete and in this high grade condition, as most sets were split as music fans focussed on the six cards highlighting Bowie. These, unfolded, flat (as issued) examples present and display to excellent effect and represent a really exciting music/movie collectable from one of the most influential icons of modern pop culture…David Bowie.

  Trivia: David Bowie was cast in the role of Major Jack Celliers after director Nagisa Ôshima saw a performance of his on the stage in a Broadway production of ‘The Elephant Man’.

  Regarded (& rightly so) as one of Alfred Hitchcock’s finest movies – a true cinematic masterpiece. Offered here is a complete set of twelve (12) British from of house lobby cards for his 1959 thriller “North By Northwest”. Each full colour card features memorable imagery from the film, none more so than our highlighted card from the Film’s breathtaking climax as Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint defend themselves atop Mount Rushmore. All twelve cards contribute to make an exceptional and rarely available complete set. Presented in very good unrestored original condition this represents a fine piece of Alfred Hitchcock cinema memorabilia.

  Trivia: This movie has often been referred to as “the first James Bond film” due to its similarities with splashily colourful settings, secret agents, and an elegant, daring, wisecracking leading man opposite a sinister yet strangely charming villain with the crop duster scene inspiring the helicopter chase in From Russia with Love (1963).
