James Bond: The Spy Who Loved Me

  £1,295.00

“…maybe I misjudged Stromberg. Any man who drinks Dom Perignon ’52 can’t be all bad.”

Bringing together the spectacle and glamour of “The Spy Who Loved Me”, this striking original US Subway poster features the familiar Bob Peak artwork of Roger Moore as James Bond, 007 alongside Barbara Bach as Agent XXX, Anya Amasova. Submarines, underwater action and the vast interior of the supertanker surround the central figures, while photographic scenes highlight the iconic white Lotus Esprit and Richard Kiel’s formidable Jaws. The bold headline, “It’s the biggest. It’s the best. It’s Bond. And beyond”, perfectly captures the campaign’s exuberance.

Directed by Lewis Gilbert, the film sees Bond join forces with a Soviet agent to investigate the disappearance of British and Russian nuclear submarines. Curt Jurgens stars as Karl Stromberg, whose underwater ambitions threaten the world, in an adventure that became one of the defining films of Roger Moore’s tenure as 007.

Measuring 45 x 60 inches, this ultra-rare large-format US Subway poster from first year of release, 1977 includes listings for contemporary theatre showings across Manhattan, Long Island and New Jersey, adding a distinctive local release detail. Presented in its original folded condition, it offers substantial scale without being overwhelming—an impressive statement piece for collectors of James Bond, Bob Peak and vintage cinema artwork.

Trivia: This movie introduced to the world a spy sea scooter known as a “wetbike” (better known now as a jet ski), sparking a new water-activity industry. This gadget was commonly referred to as the “motorbike that rides on water.”
