One of cinemas all time classic movies is Ridley Scott’s Oscar winning deep space horror “Alien”. The worldwide marketing campaign is instantly recognisable by the (now) iconic alien ‘egg’ imagery designed by the creative agency Bemis Balkind, and it is also one of the most licensed titles to commission for the alternative movie poster market with some incredible re-imagined imagery on offer, with this offering from Chris Koehler one of the best in my opinion – it just evokes the whole feel of the movie and features a key scene from the Film’s climax. Set in the shadows, the Alien is perfectly camouflaged by the workmanlike design of the ship’s interior, with colours that perfectly suit the subject matter. Issued as part of Hero Complex Gallery’s Ridley Scott show in 2021 the full art style (no title or credits) has been hand-numbered #12 from a print run of only 30. Originally rolled (as issued) this presents and displays to excellent effect. Hugely collectable and a fantastic piece of cinematic movie memorabilia from a truly influential movie that changed the face of modern sci-fi horror forever.
Trivia: Director Sir Ridley Scott and writers Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett wanted H.R. Giger to design the alien creatures based on drawings from his book ‘Necronomicon’, but they had some difficulties in convincing the studio. Executives were initially appalled by Giger’s dark and disturbing imagery, but Scott’s insistence finally won them over. Even so, Giger’s designs had to be changed several times because of their blatant sexuality.

There were some outstanding posters produced for Christopher Nolan’s 2008 “Batman Begins” sequel “The Dark Knight” but this advance “Coming Soon” teaser takes the plaudits…a truly stunning looking film poster designed by Crew Creative Advertising. This International one sheet was printed in USA for use in United Kingdom and Europe and depicts the Batman silhouetted against a striking city scape and is the rarest of any paper for the movie. The photograph really doesn’t do this poster justice. Originally rolled (as issued) this beautiful unrestored example displays and presents to magnificent effect and represents a hugely collectable item of modern original movie memorabilia from a truly outstanding film franchise and an icon of modern pop culture…“The night is darkest before the dawn.”
Trivia: In Sir Michael Caine‘s opinion, Heath Ledger beat the odds and topped Jack Nicholson‘s Joker from Batman (1989): “Jack was like a clown figure, benign but wicked, maybe a killer old uncle. He could be funny and make you laugh. Heath’s gone in a completely different direction to Jack, he’s like a really scary psychopath. He’s a lovely guy and his Joker is going to be a hell of a revelation in this picture.” Caine bases this belief on a scene where The Joker pays a visit to Bruce Wayne’s penthouse. He’d never met Ledger before, so when Ledger arrived and performed, he gave Caine such a fright, he forgot his lines.

…more detailTom Cruise is one of the greatest movie stars in cinema history and certainly one of the most energetic and action centric actors, so it’s no surprise that in 2014 he took on a project that he was perfectly suited. Set in a war torn future, Cruise’s character Cage is a man fighting in a war against aliens and must relive the same day every time he dies until he can find a way to stop them invading the Earth. “Edge of Tomorrow” is a very clever, stylish (the exo-battle suits look super cool) time travel movie with some incredible action set pieces. The imagery featured here by Graphic design agency Concept Arts (regular collaborators with Cruise) on this 2014 US one sheet features both Cruise and Emily Blunt (she plays the elite warrior – Rita, who mentors Cruise) in full battle mode. Originally rolled (as issued) this presents and displays to excellent effect and represents a hugely collectable and totally cool piece of movie memorabilia for one of popular cinema’s most loved actors.
Trivia: Tom Cruise didn’t want the exo-suits to be too CGI, so it would be more real to the audience. He showed up two months early to research and develop the suit. He thought its weapons were fun and cool. Emily Blunt was unprepared for the weight of the suit which was between 85-90 pounds, and the armaments between 120-125 pounds.
