“The girl behind the name”
When released in July “AMY” went on to break UK box office records for a documentary in its opening weekend and has since gone on to become the highest grossing British documentary film of all time. An incredible feat for a film with a very limited release & showing in only a handful of cinemas. Made by the award winning team responsible for the excellent “Senna”, “AMY” tells the heartbreaking story of the late jazz/ blues singer Amy Winehouse. The original UK quad film poster to accompany the release was designed by the creative arts agency Territory Studio, who have produced an eye catching piece. The advertising campaign was very low key and the UK film posters that accompanied the extremely limited cinema release are truly scarce. Originally rolled this incredibly rare example displays to excellent effect and represents a fantastic collectable item of music/ film / cultural memorabilia for a true music icon.
Trivia: Amy Winehouse‘s immediate family were initially willing to work with the film’s producers and director, having heard about the success of their earlier documentary, Senna (2010). They granted the filmmakers access to hours of archive footage of Amy and her family, as well as giving the filmmakers’ their blessing to interview Amy’s family and friends. However, they – in particular, Amy’s father, Mitch Winehouse – soon began to feel they were being misrepresented in the documentary, that the negative aspects of Amy’s life were receiving much more attention than the positive, and that footage had been edited in order to produce an inaccurate narrative of Amy’s story, especially the last three years of her life. Mitch Winehouse has said that Amy’s fans should consider seeing the film for the rare, previously unseen, archive footage of his daughter, but should pay no attention to the film’s general portrayal of her, which he has labeled “preposterous”.

Creative design agency BLT Communications pulled out all the stops when they issued the marketing campaign posters for the Marvel Studios’ blockbuster “Avengers: Age of Ultron”. This original 2015 UK quad film poster for Marvel’s all action super hero romp is certainly impressive as all the heroes are beautifully realised on the sweeping landscape format of the British quad; Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Black Widow and Hawkeye are joined by the newcomers Scarlet Witch (Wanda Maximoff), her twin brother Pietro (Quicksilver) and Vision, all ready to battle Ultron’s lethal android army. Originally rolled (as issued) this looks stunning and displays and presents to excellent effect. One of the best looking posters to date for any of the prolific Marvel Studios releases with spectacular detailed imagery and bright colours. A hugely important and collectable piece of movie memorabilia from the Studio that can do no wrong and if first appearances in movies and on movie posters follows the same trend as the comics then with Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver and Vision appearing in this instalment it is a must have item.
Trivia: Joss Whedon cast Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch because he thought their powers would be cool to use in a film: “Their powers are very visually interesting. One of the problems I had on the first one was everybody basically had punchy powers. Quicksilver’s got super-speed, Scarlet Witch can weave spells, and a little telekinesis, get inside your head. That’s good stuff they can do, that will help keep it fresh.”

And I’m pleased to say that Episode VII is no exception; Created by design agency LA and based on the art and concept ideas of Drew Struzan (Star Wars’ most prolific film poster artist) the finished poster is a magnificent colourful all action sweeping montage where old (Han Solo, Princess Leia & Chewbacca) meets new (Kylo Ren, Rey, Finn & Captain Phasma). The rarest of the rare, with a very limited print run, that’s exactly what this original 2015 French Grande Affiche poster for “Steve McQueen The Man and Le Mans“ is. Quite honestly some of the finest poster artwork I have seen on a ‘modern’ poster. In these days of digital design it’s a pleasure to see and handle such a beautiful item. Designed by Jonny Halifax for Julien Temple’s film ‘The Ecstasy Of Wilko Johnson’, and winner of the SXSW 2015 Excellence in Poster Design Special Jury Recognition Award this is a special and very rare film poster. After the film’s cinematic premiere held in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust in London at the Picturehouse on Shaftesbury Avenue on 17th July 2015 it was only screened in a very limited number of select ‘art-house’ cinemas making any paper from the release exceptionally scarce and sought after with the artist himself releasing limited edition prints of the artwork which immediately sold out and have become collectors items in their own right. The poster offered here is a genuine UK quad film poster from the initial 2015 release, not a copy. Printed on heavy stock paper with a four colour silk screen print finish this originally rolled example displays superbly…An incredibly rare and collectable piece of music/film memorabilia.

Quentin Tarantino’s 8th Film…“The Hateful Eight” is a bloody, brutal, who dun-it epic. Released in 2015 it proved a huge commercial & critical success and in keeping with previous Tarantino movie merchandising offerings the film posters have became very collectible. Designed by creative arts agency BLT Communications, LLC this advance teaser UK quad immediately catches the attention with its beautiful graphics and sweeping widescreen vista which is perfectly suited to the horizontal landscape style of the British quad. Presented in excellent unrestored rolled (as issued) condition this exceptional example displays superbly and as Tarantino has such a huge fanbase very sought after. As Quentin Tarantino films are aimed for that more mature 18+ audience the merchandising budget isn’t what you would expect from a general release feature and as such nearly all the posters & promotional items produced are in much lower numbers…making this type of movie memorabilia extremely scarce.
Trivia: Director Quentin Tarantino said that some of Ennio Morricone‘s musical compositions for the film are the unused scores for John Carpenter’s The Thing.

Quentin Tarantino’s 8th Film…“The Hateful Eight” is a bloody, brutal, who dun-it epic. Released in 2015 it proved a huge commercial & critical success and in keeping with previous Tarantino movie merchandising offerings the film posters have became very collectible. Officially licensed by Tarantino who worked closely with artist, Jason Edmiston and Mondo’s team to create an image that represented the films iconic and titular “eight,” while also wanting to pay special attention to the lush, vast snowy landscapes captured in glorious 70mm. Edmiston has truly achieved what I feel to be among his best and certainly most technically proficient screen prints ever. The artist had this to say about the project…”Quentin Tarantino is my favorite contemporary director, and Mondo thrilled me with the offer to attack an official poster for his latest movie, THE HATEFUL EIGHT. Enthralled by the film, I accepted the challenge. The eight titular characters are as equally important to the plot of the movie as the super wide, glorious 70 millimeter Panavision presentation. I wanted to feature both the diverse personalities and the beautiful, expansive landscape during a raging snow storm that reflects the energy inside the Haberdashery. Stylistically, Italian western posters of the 60s and 70s influenced my approach since this production shares many of those films’ typical characters and plot cues. I also wanted to maintain as much of my painted style as possible within the limitations of screen printing. I maximized the three-dimensional quality by purposefully layering my background, middle-ground and foreground elements to tell a story. Starting with a full value, black and white traditional painting, I then finalized it digitally. Comprised of 10 layers, created one at a time, the completed work combines a mix of opaque and transparent inks to emulate a full color watercolor painting. The entire process from concept to final poster took nearly 6 weeks. It was a labor of love and perhaps my proudest accomplishment to date”…Totally unrestored this originally rolled unfolded (as issued) example (#424/2975) displays to excellent effect with only minimal handling wear. Perfect, bright colours this is a truly outstanding and extremely rare film poster that represents a key item of highly sought after modern Quentin Tarantino movie memorabilia.
Trivia: Takes place in the same universe as Quentin Tarantino‘s previous film, Django Unchained(2012), even though it is not a sequel. Ironically, Samuel L. Jackson and Walton Goggins play villains in that movie, and are the good guys in this one.

Iñárritu directed, co-wrote and produced the multi award winning 2015 movie “The Revenant” that gained star Leonardo DiCaprio his first Oscar win and walked away with a further 2 Academy Awards including Best Director for himself from 12 Nominations. The poster imagery is a striking close up photograph design of DiCaprio using colour filters that just scream COLD. A fantastic looking poster, this is a scarce “In Cinemas January 15th” Advance Teaser (pre-Oscar (with minimal credits – most UK posters feature the Academy Awards) example of the 2015 UK quad movie poster. An outstanding example of modern poster design. This original 2015 UK quad film poster for Robert Eggers’s cult horror masterpiece “The Witch” – VVitch is a truly striking example designed by the creative arts agency Gravillis. One of the most sought after recent titles of the horror genre – an evil looking goat, an animal synonymous with satan and devil worship rendered in stark black and white. Totally original and unrestored this rolled (as issued) poster displays and presents to excellent effect that due to the very limited cinematic screenings represents a super rare & sought item of authentic British horror movie memorabilia.
Trivia: The spelling of the title “The VVitch” is how the word was written in the story’s period because the letter “W” was not yet in common use at the time.
