Marketing and multiple examples of promotional items are a trademark of Kubrick’s films and just when you think you have seen it all, something new shows up. A beautiful, complete set of all eight US over-sized (15″ x 20″ – 38 x 51 cm), full colour stills from first year of release, 1980 for Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece of modern horror “The Shining”. These full-colour, full bleed (the imagery runs right to the edge with no border) cards comprise a series of incredible character and key scene imagery, that includes two from the iconic ‘Here’s Johnny’ moment with six in total to feature ‘mad’ Jack Nicholson. A rare find as a complete set as most were broken up and the cards sold individually. Totally original and unrestored, the cards are presented in high grade flat, unfolded (as issued) condition that display and present to excellent effect and even more impressive because of their larger size and hi-gloss finish. Trivia #1: According to Shelley Duvall, the famous “Here’s Johnny !” scene took three days to film and the use of sixty doors.
Trivia #2: For the “Here’s Johnny” scene in which Jack breaks down the bathroom door, the props department built a door that could be easily broken. However, Jack Nicholson had worked as a volunteer fire marshal and tore it apart far too easily. The props department were then forced to build a stronger door.

Jonathan Demme’s “The Silence of the Lambs” is one of the best horror thriller movies ever made; excellent Award winning performances, full of dark humour and gory thrills. This 2020 alternative movie poster by the American graphic artist Todd Alcott is a truly outstanding piece as he re-imagines and pays homage to the classic 1962 one-sheet for another horror thriller “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane”. It really is a clever and visually stunning piece of artwork that appears as a beaten up old poster. Presented in excellent condition this rolled (as issued) example displays superbly and has been printed to look aged and distressed. Alcott’s artwork represents a great twist on traditional horror movie memorabilia and is a great example in the rapidly expanding area of alternative movie posters being one of the best looking alternative movie posters I have seen.
Trivia: When Sir Anthony Hopkins‘s agent called him in London, to tell him that he was sending him a script called “The Silence of the Lambs,” Hopkins immediately thought he might be going up for a children’s movie.

Coralie Fargeat’s “The Substance” received the longest standing ovation out of all films shown at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival with the accompanying US one-sheet an outstanding example of clever poster design. This original country of origin 2024 film poster is one of the most sought after recent titles of the horror genre – a series of photos combining reviews and scenes from the movie. Totally original and unrestored this rolled (as issued) poster displays and presents to excellent effect that due to the very limited cinematic screenings represents a super rare & sought item of authentic horror movie memorabilia.
Trivia: In several interviews, Demi Moore said that reading the script of The Substance (2024) reminded her of the script for Ghost (1990), because the chance that it could be amazing or a disaster was the same. That was crucial for her to accept the role.

An outstanding original 1982 black & white press publicity still for John Carpenter’s horror, sci-fi classic “The Thing”. This superb example features Kurt Russell’s character MacReady as he discovers the macabre frozen remains of a member of the Norwegian expedition – Alien terror never looked better than this. This original black & white publicity still is flat and unfolded (as issued), in exceptional condition, presented in a custom made black frame finished with UV plexiglass. A movie that is highly regarded as a true classic of the genre and a hugely collectable piece of horror, sci-fi film memorabilia…“Did you notice anything strange about the dog that arrived yesterday? Anything at all?”
Trivia: Unused music composed for this film was later used by Ennio Morricone in Quentin Tarantino‘s The Hateful Eight (2015). Ironically, Morricone’s Thing score was nominated for a Razzie for worst score, while his score for Hateful Eight won him an Oscar.

“Top Gun” was one of the greatest movies ever to come out of the 1980’s and certainly one of the best ‘pop corn’ films of all-time, so it’s some surprise that it’s taken another 34 years to once again take to the skies with ace naval fighter pilot Pete Mitchell as Tom Cruise returns to his best loved role in the much delayed (due to Covid 19) 2022 sequel “Top Gun: Maverick”. The image featured here on this Advance US one sheet has Cruise standing atop the wing of a P-51 Mustang (this is actually Cruise’s own plane) staring up at two fighter jets as they streak across the sky. Graphic design agency Concept Arts have created a truly memorable poster with an image that will be used for the worldwide marketing campaign. Originally rolled (as issued) this totally unrestored example presents and displays to excellent effect with only minimal handling wear and represents a hugely collectable and totally cool piece of movie memorabilia for one of popular cinema’s most loved film series’. An original, true first release example, printed for the original June 2020 release a full two years before the film eventually premiered.

With the growing popularity of online streaming and Viewing On Demand certain TV shows have achieved viewing figures that are comparable to major Hollywood films. Alan Ball’s “TRUE BLOOD” is one such TV show. Based on the best selling vampire novels of Charlaine Harris the HBO produced series proved incredibly popular running over 7 Seasons from 2008 – 2014. Introducing the viewer to vampires, werewolves, witches, goblins and fairies “TRUE BLOOD” was one of the most popular TV shows across the globe without a truly large and devoted fan base. One of the most defining cinematic images of the 20th century, Saul Bass’ spiral poster design for this classic 1958 Alfred Hitchcock thriller “Vertigo” has become synonymous with the film and as a poster design a hard act to follow. So it’s a tribute to artist Kevin Tong for creating imagery equally as memorable. John Huston’s “Victory” (Escape To Victory) has probably seen so much critical scorn it’s mind boggling. Is this movie Oscar material? Certainly not, but it’s a great film in many ways. It would be fair to say that this is most probably, the first real Football movie of its time. With stars like Michael Caine and Sylvester Stallone on board, along with an array of football stars including the one and only Pele (featured, in all their glory by the artist, Jarvis) and a true gentleman of the sport – Bobby Moore, it is truly a classic. Some people say that the story is old hat, but I disagree. Even without the football it is a very solid War film. You don’t have to be a football fan to enjoy the film, any sports fan can relate to the story that is thrust upon you…It is the classic David and Goliath type battle with football being the medium. I can remember the first time I saw the film, the cinema erupted every time the prisoners scored a goal, that was the intensity of the movie. If you are not a football fan, this movie might just convert you. Originally rolled (as issued) this US half-subway poster (printed for use in New York) presents to excellent effect with fantastic Jarvis imagery of Caine, Stallone and Pele that perfectly suits the portrait format.
Trivia: Fate brought “Victory” to Stallone’s attention. In 1979, Stallone was looking to buy a beach house in Malibu, CA. One of the houses he looked at was owned by producer Freddie Fields. After Stallone looked over the house, he met Fields out on the sundeck to tell him that, unfortunately, the house was too small. Not to let a good opportunity pass, Fields began to tell Stallone the story of a new film he wanted to make entitled “Victory.” Fields happened to have an available script on him. Stallone was intrigued enough to to take the script home with him. Three days later, Stallone announced he wanted to play Captain Hatch in the movie.

The quintessential science fiction film; George Pal’s “War of the Worlds” – with original 1953 paper for the title some of the most sought after and expensive whenever it comes to market (that’s not very often). Re-released many times since its 1953 debut, and beautifully re-imagined here on this 2014 alternative movie poster by Stan and Vince. It’s a fantastic image using the ‘Flying Saucer’ artwork that was originally used on the 1953 Style B US half sheet poster as the Martian ‘Death Ray’ destroys the city. This hand-numbered (#5/150) fine art print has been printed using glow in the dark green inks for the title and flying saucer detailing. Originally rolled (as issued) it displays and presents to excellent effect. Immediately selling out on release in 2014 this is a very sought after and desirable item, that rarely comes to market and represents a fine example of rare and collectable sci-fi movie memorabilia from a true classic of the genre.
The artists Stan and Vince had this to say about the commission – “Byron Haskin’s War of the Worlds was released 62 years ago, and even though we weren’t around at the time, this movie was made for us. We KNOW it! Byron Haskin had to know that his movie was to be aired decades later in front of our 80s teenage eyes, printing powerful, everlasting images in our brains. We’re pretty sure he also knew that Mondo was going to ask us to work on a poster for this movie! To recapture the taste and flavor of H.G. Well’s story put in those glorious fifties frames and make people hear the sizzling sound of the saucers’ deadly death rays.
That’s the magic we wanted to have in this poster. We wanted to put viewers back in the theatre seats where they first saw the movie, in the frame with the hero as he watches the invaders coming into the city! We wanted this poster to feel the retro-style menace of the red planet.”
Trivia: The estate of H.G. Wells was so pleased with the final production that it offered George Pal his choice of any other of Wells’ properties. Pal chose The Time Machine (1960).
