    Jonathan Demme’s “The Silence of the Lambs” is one of the best horror thriller movies ever made; excellent Award winning performances, full of dark humour and gory thrills. This original pair of 1991 British double crowns features a design by Marcus Silversides commissioned by the design agency BLT Communications which really is two clever and visually stunning pieces of complementing artwork with an amazing use of colour (white and pale colour tones for Clarice and deep, blood red for Lecter) and imagery featuring skull adorned winged moths over both Anthony Hopkins (Hannibal Lecter) and Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) leading characters’ mouths. Presented in very good condition these rolled (as issued) examples display superbly and represent fine pieces of original cinematic movie memorabilia.

    Trivia: When Sir Anthony Hopkins found out that he was cast as Dr. Hannibal Lecter, based on his performance as Dr. Frederick Treves in The Elephant Man (1980), he questioned director Jonathan Demme, and said “But Dr. Treves was a good man”, to which Demme replied “So is Lecter, he is a good man too. Just trapped in an insane mind.”

For this 2023 Mad Duck release, artist Paul Mann has produced a scene based alternative movie poster. The scene featured is a pivotal scene as Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) meets with Anthony Hopkins (Hannibal Lecter) for the first time and it’s the only scene in the movie in which both actors actually appear in the same frame. Screen print finish with varnish over the glass, this hand-numbered example #180/250 is presented in excellent rolled (as issued) condition that display superbly and represents a fine item of movie poster memorabilia.

    A superb pop-art style design of Twiggy draped in the British Union Jack flag, by Polish School of Posters maestro Jakub Erol features on this original Polish film poster for Ken Russell’s 1971 musical extravaganza “The Boy Friend”. Offered here is an original 1973 (first release in Poland) Polish one-sheet finished in a very striking , country unique style with this example being the first time I have offered one for sale. The Polish artists were instructed to reject Western values in their posters and were to follow rules about appropriate messaging, but other than that, they had complete artistic freedom. This resulted in some truly unique and bold designs, chock-full with individual personality, wit and subversive commentary. Heavy in metaphors and symbolism and executed in a painterly fashion with handcrafted typography the posters of the Polish School of Posters significantly influenced the international development of graphic design. Originally folded (as issued) this looks and displays very well and has benefitted greatly from being conservation linen backed; the bold colour tones are superb and unfaded and literally ‘pop’ from the paper. Guaranteed original this represents an extremely scarce and desirable item of original collectable movie memorabilia.

    Trivia: Vladek Sheybal‘s character, the director De Thrill, was a parody of famed director Cecil B. DeMille, and in fact Sheybal wore a pair of the actual boots DeMille always wore.

    Perhaps one of the most defining images in cinematic history and certainly up there with Karloff’s Frankenstein monster as the most memorable of the horror genre – Linda Blair as the possessed Regan.  This alternative movie poster by horror artist supreme, Graham Humphreys for William Friedkin’s Oscar winning horror masterpiece “The Exorcist” is a striking example of horror artwork, featuring some incredible characterisations and an amazing colour palette – from orange to sickly green/grey. The limited edition fine art print Offered here  has been signed by Humphreys and hand-numbered #9 from a print run of only 59. Hugely oversubscribed, this scarce print was sold out prior to release and presents and displays to excellent effect. Originally flat and folded (as issued) this beautiful example represents a hard to find piece of cinematic horror memorabilia for this much revered and hugely influential Oscar winning horror movie.

    Trivia: When Regan projectile vomits at Father Karras, the vomit was intended to hit Jason Miller in the chest, but the plastic tubing misfired, hitting him in the face. His reaction of shock and disgust while wiping away the vomit is genuine, and Miller admitted in interviews that he was very angered by this mistake.

    “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou” is most certainly an unusual film. It’s something of a collage of colorful imagery, fragmented shots, quirky music, strange characters, bizarre situations, and amusing montages. But if you had seen Wes Anderson’s previous films, you would expect nothing less.“The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou” was a cult success on its release with Anderson’s loyal fanbase hailing another solid cinematic offering. Only having a very limited run and showing in a small number of (largely ‘art-house’ or ‘independent’) cinemas any paper from the Film is scarce and in very short supply, making this originally rolled (as issued) one-sheet from 2004 a really great find. Designed by award winning creative arts agency BLT Communications LLC this looks and displays to excellent effect and represents an extremely hard yo find, modern original collectable movie memorabilia from a truly talented writer / director.

    Trivia: The red woolen caps worn by the characters are a reference to Jacques-Yves Cousteau, famed underwater film-maker and co-inventor of the modern aqualung.

    The Maltese Falcon is a timeless classic and top of every film fans watchlist to see, technically brilliant for just about every aspect of filmmaking and just a marvellous viewing pleasure. As a general rule BFI re-release posters are incredibly scarce due to limited print runs and distribution, being shown in literally a handful of independent and ‘art-house’ cinemas. The updated imagery, for this 80th Anniversary release features a great black and white image of Bogart in the silhouette of the titular ‘Falcon’, both off set against a deep dark red background. The rolled (as issued) UK quad offered here is from the 2021 and displays to excellent effect with deep colour tones and minimal handling wear. A striking film poster and a great looking piece of ‘modern’ golden era Hollywood cinema memorabilia for a true classic movie.

    Trivia: The “Maltese Falcon” itself is said to have been inspired by the “Kniphausen Hawk,” a ceremonial pouring vessel made in 1697 for George William von Kniphausen, Count of the Holy Roman Empire. It is modeled after a hawk perched on a rock and is encrusted with red garnets, amethysts, emeralds and blue sapphires. The vessel, as of 2012, is owned by the Duke of Devonshire (Peregrine Cavendish) and is part of the Chatsworth collection.

    Trivia: The creature design is heavily inspired by the film Creature from the Black Lagoon(1954). Michael Shannon’s character says they picked it up in the Amazon river in South America, which is the setting of The Creature from the film.
