‘Break the Silence’ was the ominous tagline for the first teaser poster (no credits, just a title) warning the cinema going public that the anti-hero serial killer Hannibal Lecter was back in Ridley Scott’s “Silence of the Lambs” sequel “Hannibal”. Designed by Diane Reynolds-Nash, it’s not hard to see why this poster un-nerves and unsettles people; the ‘red-eyed’, deeply shadowed, deathly looking “Hannibal” imagery is truly scary, dark and disturbing. Original and unrestored this rolled (as issued) 2000 US one-sheet presents to excellent effect. Genuinely scarce, this striking piece represents a highly collectable item of horror movie memorabilia.
Trivia: The first shot of Florence after the movie starts is the same scene as depicted in the drawing on Dr. Hannibal Lecter’s (Sir Anthony Hopkins‘) cell wall that he described to Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) in The Silence of the Lambs (1991), the Duomo, as seen from the Belvedere, in Florence, Italy.
