You probably couldn’t find better movie from the 1980’s that introduces such an iconic cult character in Kurt Russell’s Snake Plissken (criminally only used in one more movie) or sums up the period quite like John Carpenter’s quintessential sci-fi actioner “Escape From New York”. Carpenter always a well regarded and popular film maker has enjoyed a huge renaissance in more recent years so it was no surprise that this title was one of four seminal movies by the director re-released by Studio Canal in 2018, remastered in 4K, with the others being “They Live”, “Prince of Darkness” and “The Fog”. All four movies had a strictly limited cinematic release and were accompanied a newly designed poster campaign (quads and one-sheets) by leading artist Matt Ferguson. Ferguson’s unique artistic style is evident throughout the four, each with its very own unique colour palette. A number of these full-size 30″ x 40″ UK quad styles were also released as a limited edition art print by Vice Press. Identical to the cinematic quad, in fact exactly the same – same paper, printer etc these were issued as timed releases each signed and hand-numbered by Matt Ferguson. Offered here is one of these signed art prints numbered #48 from a print run of only 231. Originally rolled (as issued) it presents in excellent condition. A cool, cult poster that represents very collectable & desirable original film memorabilia from one of the greatest and most influential director’s who is still actively working in the film industry.
Trivia: The model of the city set was repainted and reused for Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner.

“Prince of Darkness” sees John Carpenter not just in the director’s chair, he wrote the soundtrack and also the screenplay under the pseudonym Martin Quatermass, which is a direct homage to Bernard Quatermass, the lead character in Hammer’s film and TV series that started with The Quatermass Experiment and that features several elements in common with Carpenter’s story. The film is the second in what the director calls his ‘Apocalypse Trilogy’ that started with The Thing (1982) and ended with In the Mouth of Madness (1994) and is the result of Carpenter’s interest in theoretical physics and atomic theory as well as the idea of an ultimate evil or ‘anti-god’ combined with the physics-based concept of matter and anti-matter. “Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones” is a pivotal episode in the Star Wars saga as Anakin finally fulfils his destiny and becomes the dark Sith Lord – Darth Vader. This 20th Anniversary release (2025) sees the return of artist Matt Ferguson, as he is once again commissioned to create the poster for the worldwide cinema marketing campaign and after producing some impressive imagery for the anniversary releases of Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace he has really knocked it out of the park with the artwork for “Revenge of the Sith” – it truly is spectacular and one of the best Star Wars posters ever (and that includes the Original Trilogy). As more and more cinemas are turning to digital screens to advertise what’s showing, physical, printed posters are becoming extremely rare, especially those with such a short limited screening window – and that is the case here with the lowest print run of any Star Wars movie, even more so with the quad exclusive to the UK. Presented here in original unrestored condition this beautiful 2025 rolled (as issued) example has deep unfaded vibrant colour tones and displays to excellent effect. As this is the British release it carries the tagline ‘Returns to Cinemas April 25’. This beautiful poster represents a fine addition for any collector of original cinematic movie memorabilia or the dedicated Star Wars fan.
Trivia: George Lucas allowed his friend Steven Spielberg to help design some sequences during pre-production. This was partly because Spielberg wanted the experience of using the pre-visualization techniques pioneered by Industrial Light & Magic, as he was going to use them for War of the Worlds (2005). It was also because Lucas felt that his roles as writer, director, executive producer, and financier were taking up too much of his time and he needed another director to bounce ideas off. Spielberg’s main contribution was in the climactic lightsaber duel between Obi-Wan and Anakin.

After the huge success of “Halloween” John Carpenter quickly followed up with the equally memorable horror “The Fog” – a guilty pleasure film of mine as I love how well Carpenter develops the tension and tells the story with great cinematography, sound, and use of locations. Trivia: Although this was essentially a low budget independent movie, John Carpenter chose to shoot the movie in anamorphic widescreen Panavision. This decision gave the movie a grander feel for the viewer so this didn’t seem like a low budget horror movie.

A critical and commercial success and perhaps the best British movie (gangster or otherwise) ever made…John MacKenzie’s “The Long Good Friday”. Receiving a very limited release in UK cinemas (it was nearly never released due to financial problems & only saved as a cinematic production by George Harrison, with his Handmade Films stepping in at the 11th hour) meant that any paper is scarce, making this original 1980 UK quad film poster a rare find especially in such high grade condition. Featuring stark black & white country unique design & artwork, this excellent unrestored example presents near perfectly. Rolled (as issued) it represents an exceptional piece of collectable original film memorabilia from a true British gangster classic…“The Mafia? I’ve shit ’em”

Trivia: Artist Shepard Fairey credits the film as a major source of inspiration, sharing a similar logo to his “OBEY” campaign. “They Live was…the basis for my use of the word ‘obey’,” Fairey said. “The movie has a very strong message about the power of commercialism and the way that people are manipulated by advertising.”
