“After a daring mission to rescue Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt, the rebels dispatch to Endor to destroy a more powerful Death Star. Meanwhile, Luke struggles to help Vader back from the dark side without falling into the Emperor’s trap.”

Created in 1985 by Kazu Sano for the First Japanese release, it wasn’t until 1993 and the 10th Anniversary re-release for “Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi” that Sano’s original concept artwork was used and redesigned to fit the portrait style of a US one sheet. If you look closely you can see how Sano arranged the detailed composition to resemble a letter ‘S’ with the explosion at its centrepiece.  This is an original 1993 US one sheet produced by Kilian Enterprises for the 10th Anniversary release of George Lucas’  “Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi”. The production values, print quality and colour saturation is incredible with Kilian considered the best of the best in respect of the limited edition Anniversary posters produced. The impressive example offered here displays superbly and is presented in totally unrestored, rolled (as issued) investment grade quality condition with deep rich colour tones and some all action, character driven “Star Wars” artwork…Hugely collectable this stunning sought after item is a fine example of original Star Wars movie memorabilia.

Film Description

Star Wars Episode VI – Return of the Jedi Movie Poster

“Luke Skywalker battles horrible Jabba the Hut and cruel Darth Vader to save his comrades in the Rebel Alliance and triumph over the Galactic Empire. Han Solo and Princess Leia reaffirm their love and team with Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, the Ewoks and the androids C-3PO and R2-D2 to aid in the disruption of the Dark Side and the defeat of the evil emperor.”

Return of the Jedi was the last film (at the time) in George Lucas‘ saga is a lavish, spectacular-looking production. It is often considered the ugly duckling of the original trilogy, but I think it is a notch above episode IV (and just a notch below episodes III and V). In fact, I think it is the third best film in the 6-part saga. As far as I’m concerned, it is still a grandiosely entertaining film. It is not a movie with a beginning, climax and ending; the film’s mechanism operates with only one goal in its mind: bring closure to Lucas’ universe. There is an air of finality attached to the whole thing, which makes the film a little too sentimental, but emotionally rewarding. Also, it is a lot of fun. New characters are introduced and old ones face new, unexpected challenges. C3PO (Anthony Danielsand R2D2 (Kenny Bakerprovide (as usual) great comic relief. Princess Leia (Carrie Fisherand Han Solo (Harrison Fordare a wonderful romantic duo, and Luke (Mark Hamillis still a great character to identify with. Again, it is Luke’s (and Vader’s) inner conflict what gives the saga its backbone. Lucas’ aggressive imagination is still very much apparent, and the film’s themes of loyalty, hope, and redemption resonate strongly. This film is a great bookend to a long, fascinating and captivating saga. Not a perfect movie, but fun in the best matinée style.

Some sets have a title card, which contains credits and artwork, essentially a mini-poster. The remaining seven cards are coloured photographic credits and poster artwork showing different scenes from the movie.

HALF SHEET
22 x 28″ printed on heavy stock paper. The image displayed is normally a smaller version of the main poster, although some do have different artworks and sometimes come in two versions.

Since the 1980’s most posters are sent to the theatre rolled and maybe slightly smaller measuring 27″ by 40″ and with the advent of backlit light boxes a growing number of modern movie posters are available double-sided and the more traditional single-sided.

41 x 81″ printed on paper. These were printed on two or three separate sheets designed to overlap, few survive. Used for larger advertising spaces, normally posted on walls, perfect for huge movie theatres the drive-in, where people could see them from a distance. From the 1970’s on, three-sheets were sometimes printed in one piece and issued as “international” versions to be used abroad.
