“It is a lawless time. Crime Syndicates compete for resources – food, medicine, and hyperfuel. On these mean streets, a young man fights for survival, but yearns to fly among the stars…”

“Solo: A Star Wars Story” is part of a new concept for the Star Wars franchise originally created by George Lucas and set before the events of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope  and the second in a series of ‘standalone’ films, introducing a new group of heroes & the early informative years of some well known ones. Trivia: When Beckett, Rio, Val, Han, and Chewbacca talk around a bonfire the night before the train heist, Beckett disassembles a rifle, turning it into a blaster that he gives to Han. It’s Solo’s famous DL-44 blaster, which also appears in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope(1977), Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983), and Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015).

Film Description

Solo: A Star Wars Story Movie Poster

“With the emerging demand of hyperfuel and other resources, Han Solo finds himself in the middle of a heist alongside other criminals, where they meet the likes of Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian in an adventurous situation exposing the criminal underworld.”

For the first time since Disney bought Star Wars we finally get a film which expands the Star Wars universe in a positive way. In Solo: A Star Wars Story we get characters one can empathise with making very human decisions in a very dark world, whilst progressing a plot with initiatives on the grey side of morality. It’s fun. It’s exciting. It’s Star Wars.

Alden Ehrenreich plays the young Han Solo in a fun way and he really makes you sympathise with his struggles. The film paints a picture of why Han Solo is who he is as you slowly see him being formed by the world around him into the character we know. We see a dark and gritty galaxy in which the Empire reigns supreme and crime and civic unrest are on the rise. It’s no wonder stormtroopers develop their sarcastic war humor to keep a sense of optimism after the dark things they have to do.

The rest of the cast is great as well. All the characters were full of life and their actions were very human. Chewie (Joonas Suotamo) is fun. Qi’ra (Emilia Clarke) is mysterious. Lando (Donald Glover) is… Lando. It all just works. Every character has a distinct personality and the bad guys’ motives aren’t black and white. This results in unpredictable plot twists and at the end of the movie you might find yourself rooting for completely different people than before.

The cinematography could have been better to give use a better overview of different situations, and I would have loved to have seen more technologically advanced settings in the vision of George Lucas instead of the natural wastelands Disney likes to show.

Some sets have a title card, which contains credits and artwork, essentially a mini-poster. The remaining seven cards are coloured photographic credits and poster artwork showing different scenes from the movie.

WINDOW CARD

HALF SHEET
22 x 28″ printed on heavy stock paper. The image displayed is normally a smaller version of the main poster, although some do have different artworks and sometimes come in two versions.

INSERT
14 x 36″ printed on heavy stock paper. Inserts usually have the same artwork as a one sheet. Popular with collectors since they are smaller and easier to frame. Normally come tri folded or rolled.

STYLE Y/FORTY BY SIXTY

ONE-SHEET
27 x 41″ printed on paper. This is the most common size of poster, intended to be displayed in a glass “marquee” case. It is the most sought after size by collectors. Since the 1980’s most posters are sent to the theatre rolled and maybe slightly smaller measuring 27″ by 40″ and with the advent of backlit light boxes a growing number of modern movie posters are available double-sided and the more traditional single-sided.

THREE-SHEET
41 x 81″ printed on paper. These were printed on two or three separate sheets designed to overlap, few survive. Used for larger advertising spaces, normally posted on walls, perfect for huge movie theatres the drive-in, where people could see them from a distance. From the 1970’s on, three-sheets were sometimes printed in one piece and issued as “international” versions to be used abroad.
