It’s not often I get a poster in that makes me go WOW ! Well this original 1968 UK quad is such a poster. The film is a personal favourite of mine and this poster is truly the best I have ever seen; absolutely exquisite. Considered the best design for the title it features four character panels – Charlton Heston (Taylor), Buck Tartalian (Julius), Linda Harrison (Nova) & Maurice Evans (Dr. Zaius) offset against an outer space background. The colours are stunning, deep & unfaded. “Planet of the Apes” is considered one of the pivotal sci-fi movies ever made and this original UK quad is presented in exceptional condition and would provide an incredible corner-stone addition to any movie fan’s collection. I doubt there is another out there in such fine condition…a true investment condition item of outstanding original film movie memorabilia.

Trivia: At one of the first test screenings, a woman walked up to Charlton Heston and asked him how he was. Heston had no clue who she was until she revealed that she was Kim Hunter. He simply hadn’t recognized her as he hadn’t seen her outside of her ape make-up.

Film Description

Maurice Evans Planet of the Apes Movie Poster

“Taylor and two other astronauts come out of deep hibernation to find that their ship has crashed. Escaping with little more than clothes they find that they have landed on a planet where men are pre-lingual and uncivilized while apes have learned speech and technology. Taylor is captured and taken to the city of the apes after damaging his throat so that he is silent and cannot communicate with the apes.”

In the year 1968, two movies came out that changed modern day science-fiction films forever, Stanley Kubrick‘s “2001 A Space Odyssey” was the most famous out of the two, but Planet of the Apes stands on its own ground and became a classic that it is universally acclaimed to be.

Planet of the Apes, directed by Franklin J. Schaffner is one of the most stylized films of the late 1960’s which was based on the novel by Pierre Boulle – is social commentary at it’s best. The film’s post apocalyptic look is breathtaking, and Roddy McDowall (Dr. Cornelius), Kim Hunter (Dr. Zira) and Maurice Evans (Dr. Zaius) are the standouts in this finely written tale by Michael Wilson and “Twilight Zone’s” Rod Serling. The ending – which is still considered one of the best twist endings of all time – still doesn’t disappoint. The film spawned four sequels, novelizations, cartoons, a TV series, as well as a remake by Tim Burton. This is a must see for all film purists.

Some sets have a title card, which contains credits and artwork, essentially a mini-poster. The remaining seven cards are coloured photographic credits and poster artwork showing different scenes from the movie.

THREE-SHEET
41 x 81″ printed on paper. These were printed on two or three separate sheets designed to overlap, few survive. Used for larger advertising spaces, normally posted on walls, perfect for huge movie theatres the drive-in, where people could see them from a distance. From the 1970’s on, three-sheets were sometimes printed in one piece and issued as “international” versions to be used abroad.
