“Past and present collide in a vortex of fear !”

Nicknamed ‘The Godfather of Gore‘, the late Italian director Lucio Fulci is responsible for several memorable entries in the horror genre and The House by the Cemetery” is considered to be one of the ‘big four’ Fulci films and the third in his ‘Gates of Hell’ trilogy. (the others being Zombie Flesh Eaters, The Beyond and City of the Living Dead), which were all made within two years of each other. Featuring country unique British design by master illustrator Enzo Sciotti (an artist who really ‘gets’ the subject matter) this original UK quad movie poster is certainly impressive. From first year of release 1981 this folded (as issued) original, unrestored UK quad movie poster displays to excellent effect and is presented in true investment grade condition (easily the best example of this cult classic horror poster I have ever offered for sale) with deep dark colour tone and bright fluorescent yellow logo. A really nice find for a genuinely scarce item of original horror movie memorabilia from a classic of the so called ‘video nasties‘ productions of the 1970’s and early 80’s.

Film Description

House by the Cemetery Movie Poster

“In New York, Dr. Norman Boyle assumes the research about Dr. Freudstein of his colleague Dr. Petersen, who committed suicide after killing his mistress. Norman heads to Boston with his wife Lucy Boyle and their son Bob to live in an isolated house in the woods that belonged to Dr. Petersen. Bob befriends the girl Mae that only he can see and she warns him to leave the house. Soon his parents hire the mysterious babysitter Ann and creepy things happen in the house. When Bobby goes to the basement, his parents discover the secret of the house.”

House by the Cemetery is a terrifying Italian shocker from the legendary Lucio Fulci. A family move into a creepy old house and are unaware that living in the cellar is the flesh-eating zombie of a 19th Century surgeon. The little boy is soon a friend with the ghost of the late doctors daughter who warns them to stay away but to little effect. The creature gruesomely kills and dismembers a variety of Estate Agents, Copulating teenagers and Babysitters leading to a terrifying finale in the corpse-strewn cellar. The Lucio Fulci trademark of graphic gore is abundant as ever but it is the atmosphere that makes this movie stand out. Bumps in the night and the ominous crying of children coming from the cellar are just some of the factors that assault and disturb the viewer. This is a truly amazing movie that relies on shock and terror rather than revulsion. The gore just adds to what is already a truly chilling little tale of cannibalism and depravity that will linger in the mind long after you’ve forgotten about the illogical plot and poor dubbing. One of Fulci’s best films. Deserves its cult reputation.

LOBBY CARD
11 x 14″ printed on heavy stock paper. Used as display in theatre lobbies. Originally made in sets of eight. Some sets have a title card, which contains credits and artwork, essentially a mini-poster. The remaining seven cards are coloured photographic credits and poster artwork showing different scenes from the movie.

HALF SHEET
22 x 28″ printed on heavy stock paper. The image displayed is normally a smaller version of the main poster, although some do have different artworks and sometimes come in two versions.

INSERT
14 x 36″ printed on heavy stock paper. Inserts usually have the same artwork as a one sheet. Popular with collectors since they are smaller and easier to frame. Normally come tri folded or rolled.

STYLE Y/FORTY BY SIXTY

ONE-SHEET
27 x 41″ printed on paper. This is the most common size of poster, intended to be displayed in a glass “marquee” case. It is the most sought after size by collectors. Since the 1980’s most posters are sent to the theatre rolled and maybe slightly smaller measuring 27″ by 40″ and with the advent of backlit light boxes a growing number of modern movie posters are available double-sided and the more traditional single-sided.

THREE-SHEET
41 x 81″ printed on paper. These were printed on two or three separate sheets designed to overlap, few survive. Used for larger advertising spaces, normally posted on walls, perfect for huge movie theatres the drive-in, where people could see them from a distance. From the 1970’s on, three-sheets were sometimes printed in one piece and issued as “international” versions to be used abroad.
