A stunning and much sought after alternative movie poster by Elvisisdead for Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead sequel…“Evil Dead II” (Dead By Dawn). The sequel, made six years later and technically a retcon sequel, was allotted a significantly larger budget than the first and is more of a black comedy than the original. Lead actor Bruce Campbell is put through a continually escalating series of horrific encounters that allow him to show the full extent of his talent for slapstick comedy and it is a demonically possessed Campbell – ‘Evil Ash’, who is featured on this 2015 limited edition variant style art print, hand-numbered #99/100. A great looking piece of horror art that represents a fine example of not only horror film movie memorabilia, but also when the subject matter is so powerful just how effective an alternative movie poster can be.

Trivia: A glove belonging to the A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) Freddy Krueger character can be seen hanging above the door of the tool shed when Ash carves his girlfriends head with a chainsaw and when he’s looking for the pages in the later cellar scenes. This was in response to the use of The Evil Dead (1981) on a television screen in A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984).

Film Description

Evil Dead II Movie Poster

“Ashley Williams travels to a secluded cabin in the woods with his girlfriend Linda where they find a tape recording of a professor and a book of evil. This unleashes a bunch of evil spirits that constantly terrorize Ash. Meanwhile a journalist comes to the area to study the book of evil. Ash and her end up having to survive this swarm of evil until morning comes.”

The Exorcist made you feel respect and fear to the Devil. Sam Raimi‘s Evil Dead II makes fun of the Devil and demon possession. Although there are some really scary scenes, there are some really twisted funny situations that would leave you wondering “what the f*** just happened ?”. The movie is funny for the wrong reasons. I eventually don’t laugh about when a man is breaking himself dishes on the head. I don’t think it’s funny when a man is repeatedly beaten up by grotesque characters. I would never imagine a man getting eaten by a demon locked under a cellar and throwing gallons of blood ! Evil Dead II makes it look hilarious in a wicked kind of way. For example, when Linda’s (Denise Bixler) head tells Ash (Bruce Campbell) that “she is being tormented, and suffering in hell; you can feel a little scared but the next scene has a corpse without a head holding a chainsaw. There’s no time for logic here, just sit and enjoy.

Trivia: Sam Raimi credits Stephen King for making the sequel (as well as the popularity of the original) possible. Raimi couldn’t acquire enough money to fund the film so Stephen King made a few calls (since he was a huge fan of the original) and convinced financiers to give Raimi the money he needed for the sequel.

Some sets have a title card, which contains credits and artwork, essentially a mini-poster. The remaining seven cards are coloured photographic credits and poster artwork showing different scenes from the movie.

Since the 1980’s most posters are sent to the theatre rolled and maybe slightly smaller measuring 27″ by 40″ and with the advent of backlit light boxes a growing number of modern movie posters are available double-sided and the more traditional single-sided.

THREE-SHEET
41 x 81″ printed on paper. These were printed on two or three separate sheets designed to overlap, few survive. Used for larger advertising spaces, normally posted on walls, perfect for huge movie theatres the drive-in, where people could see them from a distance. From the 1970’s on, three-sheets were sometimes printed in one piece and issued as “international” versions to be used abroad.
