    American Gigolo

    £45.00

    “His business is pleasure !”

After the huge success in 1982 for the Oscar winning “An Officer and a Gentleman”, Richard Gere was a global superstar and the most bankable male actor at the box office. Paramount Pictures were quick to exploit his success and re-released (even though it was only originally released in 1980) Paul Schrader’s “American Gigolo” with the knowing tagline… “In American Gigolo Richard Gere is neither an Officer nor a Gentleman” which was adapted to run alongside the familiar imagery of the original 1980 UK quad film poster. Rare in this style, it is actually a very effective design. Originally folded (as issued) this unrestored example presents and displays very well and represents a highly desirable piece of original movie memorabilia for one of the most stylish films of the 80’s.

TRIVIA…This movie represented the Hollywood breakthrough of leading clothes designer GIORGIO ARMANI who provided the stylish clothes for Richard Gere’s well dressed male escort.

“When Smokey Sings” the hit 1987 song by ABC was inspired by the scene in the movie where Richard Gere is seen meticulously choosing what clothes to wear out.

    Breathless

    £60.00

“Me and Monica! Yeah, me and Monica go to Méjico!”

One of the best Richard Gere images you will see is Eric Pulford’s country unique (British) artwork for the 1983 UK quad movie poster for “Breathless”. To be fair both Gere and co-star Valerie Kaprisky (her first and only US starring role) look pretty good. The original 1983 UK quad movie poster offered here is from first year of release and displays and presents to excellent effect. Originally rolled (as issued) the colours are bright and unfaded and Pulford’s imagery dramatic and exciting. With hardly a defect of note this beautiful rolled unrestored film poster is in investment grade condition and a fine example of rare and collectable original movie memorabilia.

Hugely effective you really can feel the speed and excitement. The original US one sheet offered here is  is the rare Style B from first year of release 1969 and is presented in excellent tri-folded (as issued with no vertical centrefold) condition. Particularly sought after by skiing enthusiasts this represents a fine piece of sports / movie memorabilia that is becoming increasingly hard to find from a superior sports movie and one of the best skiing films ever made.

    £695.00

“This is Benjamin. He’s a little worried about his future.”

Nautilus Art Prints released this Laurent Durieux variant as a limited run of 200 in 2017. In this poster, Durieux creates a bright and colourful retro summer aesthetic as he illustrates the memorable scuba-suit pool scene from Mark Nichols’ 1967 comedy-drama-romance “The Graduate”. This scene was very symbolic in displaying Ben’s (Dustin Hoffman) lack of control over his future whilst he was still trapped under hs parents control. The 12-colour screen print is signed by Durieux and hand-numbered #36/200. Having a very limited release these alternative movie posters are incredibly rare. Unrestored, this rolled (as issued) poster presents and displays to exceptional effect and represents a superb example of genuinely scarce modern film memorabilia featuring one of Hollywood’s greatest romantic comedy’s…classic and very COOL!

Trivia: In the famous promotional still and original poster for this film, Dustin Hoffman is seen in the background framed by Mrs. Robinson’s shapely leg. The leg in that photo didn’t belong to Anne Bancroft, however; it belonged to a then-unknown model, Linda Gray, who later played Mrs. Robinson in a London stage musical of The Graduate & Sue Ellen Ewing in the TV show Dallas.

  • Licorice Pizza Movie Poster

    Licorice Pizza

    £125.00

“I knew it! I knew that was what you were thinking. You’re always thinking things, you thinker! You thinker! You think things!”

“Licorice Pizza” is a Paul Thomas Anderson nostalgic romcom of sorts about a teenager and the much older woman he wants to have a romance with in 1970s California filmed around characters and situations from the entertainment industry of the day, eccentric, off-beat and very period appropriate. “Licorice Pizza” was a cult success on its release with Anderson’s loyal fanbase hailing another solid cinematic offering. Only having a very limited run and showing in a small number of (largely ‘art-house’ or ‘independent’) cinemas any paper from the film is scarce and in very short supply, making this originally rolled (as issued) Kat Reeder designed one-sheet from 2021 a really great find. It displays to excellent effect and represents an extremely hard yo find, modern original collectable movie memorabilia from a truly talented writer/director.

Trivia: The term “Licorice Pizza” is slang for a vinyl record, particularly albums which were known as LPs for Long Play, hence Licorice Pizza. Also, the vinyl record is black, which is the color of licorice, and the shape is flat and round, like a pizza.

With an impressive star-studded cast, most of whom are featured on the poster, this much loved movie is a genuine feelgood offering. A Christmas or a Valentines movie – well you can decide with this beautifully presented, country of origin British UK quad film poster from the first year of release 2003. Trivia: A speech given by Hugh Grant in this movie (where he extols the virtues of Great Britain and refuses to cave to the pressure of its longstanding ally, the United States) was etched in the transatlantic memory as a satirical, wishful statement on the concurrent relationship with George W. Bush. Tony Blair responded by saying in 2005, “I know there’s a bit of us that would like me to do a Hugh Grant in Love Actually (2003) and tell America where to get off. But the difference between a good film and real life is that in real life there’s the next day, the next year, the next lifetime to contemplate the ruinous consequences of easy applause.”
