    Probably the most important film of ‘modern’ cinema, launching a movie trend that is now commonly referred to as the ‘Summer Blockbuster’. It also happens to be one of the best and most memorable movie poster images ever ! Designed by The Seiniger Advertising Agency with finished artwork by Roger Kastel the poster has attained cult status. Once you’ve seen the film (& who hasn’t) you see the poster and you just can’t get John Williams’ distinctive soundtrack out of your head. This original UK quad for Steven Spielberg’s 1975 masterpiece “Jaws” is for the September 9th 2022 re-release for IMAX cinema screens and a Real D 3D version. Although retaining the original artwork it has been slightly altered to denote this is, with a shark-bite evident on the ‘A’ of IMAX. Originally rolled (as issued) this displays to excellent effect. Perfect, deep rich colours this is a truly outstanding and extremely rare original film poster that is only available for this very limited cinematic release with the UK quad being the only landcscape format printed. It presents and displays to excellent effect and represents a key item of highly sought after, collectable original movie memorabilia…“You’re gonna need a bigger boat !”

    Trivia: Several decades after the film’s release, Lee Fierro, who played Mrs. Kintner, walked into a seafood restaurant and noticed that the menu had an “Alex Kintner Sandwich.” She commented that she had played his mother so many years ago; the owner of the restaurant ran out to meet her, and he was none other than Jeffrey Voorhees, who had played her son. They had not seen each other since the original movie shoot.

It also happens to be one of the best and most memorable movie poster images ever ! So why reinvent it ? When it comes to amazing alternative movie posters, this hand-numbered (#24/250) limited edition art print by Andrew Swainson is a real eye-catcher. There are a lot of alternative ‘Jaws’ posters on the market with this 2021 offering considered one of the best and most desirable; very clever imagery. Released by Vice Press, this wonderfully subtle design by Swainson is a God’s eye view of Amity Island’s beach moments before the shark takes young Alex Kintner as its second victim. We can just make out the image of a shark in the water with its teeth being integrated into the waves as they break onto the shore. A very limited release. Totally unrestored this originally rolled unfolded (as issued) example displays to exceptional effect. Perfect, colours is a truly outstanding and extremely rare  film poster print that represents a key item of highly sought after modern movie memorabilia…“You’re gonna need a bigger boat !”

    One of the great silent films, Georg Wilhelm Pabst’s “Pandora’s Box” is renowned for its sensational storyline, sparkling Weimar-period setting and the legendary, lead performance from its iconic star Louise Brooks who is featured prominently on the poster imagery. As a general rule BFI re-release posters are incredibly scarce due to limited print runs and distribution, being shown in literally a handful of independent and ‘art-house’ cinemas with the updated imagery often superior to many of the original release designs. The rolled (as issued) UK quad offered here is from the 2020 digital restoration BFI release and displays to excellent effect with beautiful imagery and design; lovely bright bold colours. A fantastic looking item and a fine piece of cinema memorabilia for a true classic of the silent era.

    Trivia: Despite being replaced by Louise Brooks at the last minute for the role of Lulu in Pandora’s Box (1929), Marlene Dietrich managed to snag another coveted role. Her removal from “Pandora’s Box” freed her up to play one of her most iconic roles, Lola Lola in Josef von Sternberg‘s The Blue Angel (1930).

    Jonathan Demme’s “The Silence of the Lambs” is one of the best horror thriller movies ever made; excellent Award winning performances, full of dark humour and gory thrills. This original pair of 1991 British double crowns features a design by Marcus Silversides commissioned by the design agency BLT Communications which really is two clever and visually stunning pieces of complementing artwork with an amazing use of colour (white and pale colour tones for Clarice and deep, blood red for Lecter) and imagery featuring skull adorned winged moths over both Anthony Hopkins (Hannibal Lecter) and Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) leading characters’ mouths. Presented in very good condition these rolled (as issued) examples display superbly and represent fine pieces of original cinematic movie memorabilia.

    Trivia: When Sir Anthony Hopkins found out that he was cast as Dr. Hannibal Lecter, based on his performance as Dr. Frederick Treves in The Elephant Man (1980), he questioned director Jonathan Demme, and said “But Dr. Treves was a good man”, to which Demme replied “So is Lecter, he is a good man too. Just trapped in an insane mind.”

    Alternative movie poster artist Ice Ananphada has created a truly beautiful looking movie poster for Wes Anderson’s best film to date, the multi Oscar winning 2014 production “The Grand Budapest Hotel”. Released in 2015 as a private commission this limited edition print is hand-numbered #61/65. Printed on dur-o-tone butcher white art paper using 15 colour inks (which includes two metallics) and featuring the star-studded cast and titular hotel, Ananphada’s colour palette, line work and detailing is incredible – it  looks quite amazing.  Originally rolled (as issued) this displays to excellent effect and is a fine example of collectable modern movie memorabilia.

    Trivia: Ralph Fiennes partly based his character’s vocal traits on English comic actor Leonard Rossiter.

    “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou” is most certainly an unusual film. It’s something of a collage of colorful imagery, fragmented shots, quirky music, strange characters, bizarre situations, and amusing montages. But if you had seen Wes Anderson’s previous films, you would expect nothing less.“The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou” was a cult success on its release with Anderson’s loyal fanbase hailing another solid cinematic offering. Only having a very limited run and showing in a small number of (largely ‘art-house’ or ‘independent’) cinemas any paper from the Film is scarce and in very short supply, making this originally rolled (as issued) one-sheet from 2004 a really great find. Designed by award winning creative arts agency BLT Communications LLC this looks and displays to excellent effect and represents an extremely hard yo find, modern original collectable movie memorabilia from a truly talented writer / director.

    Trivia: The red woolen caps worn by the characters are a reference to Jacques-Yves Cousteau, famed underwater film-maker and co-inventor of the modern aqualung.

    Trivia: The creature design is heavily inspired by the film Creature from the Black Lagoon(1954). Michael Shannon’s character says they picked it up in the Amazon river in South America, which is the setting of The Creature from the film.

    One of the most defining cinematic images of the 20th century, Saul Bass’ spiral poster design for this classic 1958 Alfred Hitchcock thriller “Vertigo” has become synonymous with the film and as a poster design a hard act to follow. So it’s a tribute to artist Kevin Tong for creating imagery equally as memorable. Released in 2023 by Mad Duck this high quality limited edition art print is hand-numbered #46/250 and features an incredible blue/green colour palette. “Vertigo”  was the the fourth and final time that James Stewart would work with Alfred Hitchcock, with both turning in career-defining performances and is a movie that consistently makes the shortlist for ‘Greatest Movie of All-Time’ with the influential movie magazine ‘Sight & Sound’ making it their Number One film of all time.
